HI ALL. Is there a program on the iphone (app store or cydia) that lets me see what's running in the background and how much of a strain it is on the battery??:eek: My battery is draining TOO fast when it's on standby and not in use!.

THANKS

sbsettings from cydia has a resource toggle that I use frequently. also mquickdo. check them out. sbsettings it's free though.

You could also get mobile terminal and top from cydia. And then run the top command from the terminal and you should see a list of processes.

MemTool lets you see all that (Basically what Mobile Terminal and TOP do).

Other apps, like mquickdo, sbsettings, kirakae only show apps that backgrounder has put in the background. Not all the daemons or services you have installed.

I use FreeMemory, it's in the AppStore. Shows you all the processes that are running and let's you free them up. I think it's $2 or something like that.

FreeMemory is no longer available. Apple had all developers pull the "free memory" feature of the applications. So instead of creating an update that was without freeing the memory, the developer pulled the App all together so that all current users can keep it. Unlike iStat that updated their program without the free memory option, so all current users lost what the main reason why they purchased that application.

SBSettings on my phone reports a different amount of free memory in the app itself and in the taskbar. There's about a 10-15 MBs difference.

so r u suggesting that i do nor install the sbsettings then???:confused:

No, sbsettings is fine. They just read free memory from different places.

Honestly, I think the best is MemTool from Cydia. You can see EVERY process on your phone, see how much memory and CPU time it's using and kill any one of them. Basically like a GUI for 'top'

THANKS 4 the reply. Is Memtool a program that installs on the home screen like appstore apps?:confused: Also, all the jailbroken processes that run in the background, can i kill them or will the iphone crash?? Because there are ALOT of them running in the background that are probably draining my battery by a percentage EVERY 2 minutes!

MemTool is an app that launches like any other app when you touch it.

Some things you install jailbroken can be killed if they are processes. Some are mobilesubstrate plugins and do not run as a separate process. You can use SBSettings and open it and go to More and then turn on and off MobileSubstrate plugins. This will force you to respring though.

OK> I think i will list all of the processes that are running in the background and someone can comment back with yes or no if i should stop the process to stop the FAST battery drainage. I only get about 5hrs before i get 20% battery remaining message and that's ONLY if i leave it on standby for the 5 hours (in my pocket:()

It's probably plugins in your MobileSubstrate. Get SBSettings and list those apps too that show up as MS plugins.

People have reported that if you have a 2G or 3G and use SBSettings to view the battery % it drains the battery faster.

I think i have noticed this. When i use the other program to show battery it was fine. when i used sbs's battery % i could watch it drain. Not sure if that is the reason though. 3.1.2 JB seems to really take the battery down on my iphone

I'm not talking about two different apps. If I turn on the statusbar free memory feature in SBSettings it shows me a different amount of free memory there than the ovarlay does. Why it that?

Ok guys this is the meat and potatos of hat I
am looking for!!!

I am new to all of this!! I JB with blackrain
my 3.1.2

From what I am hearing i should get Memtool??
How on EARTH am I going to know which things running in the background can or should be deleted? I know if I just try to wing it on my own with no help i will unwillingly mess my phone up.

Is there anyway to know what to delete??

Also I do not want cydia anymore on my phone. I never use
it and I always use Rock but I figure having both on my phone will eat up alot. My battery is dying too fast. Can someone help me out with what is most commonly on there that can be deleted?

I used Kirikae (spelling?) for a while. It works great! Pop-up window with all active programs and you can kill or select running apps. I haven't reinstalled it after 3.1.2, because I was a tad frustrated with which hotkey to use to launch it. With Backgrounder and the "K" app, and the desire to use voice-commands, I kept running into conflicts.

it isn't cydia/rock draining your battery, it is the 3.1.2 JB. For some reason a lot of us are getting very bad batt drains. I have a whole other thread on it about 1% battery drain per minute of use. I restored back to 3.1 and now it is great. I use rock but have cydia and on 3.1 i have really good battery life.

ok excellent that is what I am going to do then as soon as I get home.

So how do I downgrade my firmware to 3.1? And will i just redo the same process with blackra1n??

I'm anxious to do this.

I'm on 3.0 JB & unlocked....IS this the reason why my battery is draining by 1% PER MINUTE OF USE?? If i upgrade to 3.1 and jailbreak & unlock, will the battery drain normally as it should??:confused:

What do you have running on your phone?

If you are on a mac you might as well use Pwnage and upgrade to the latest version of the OS. That may clear some things up.

Then you gotta be careful of what you install. I was having some aweful battery life until I removed Backgrounder (Even though I was almost never using it) then I started getting much more.
