Looks like you need a Mac or PC to use imazing. That’s what the OP wants to avoid. Or did I miss something about imazing?

Backup iPad to an External Hard Drive with/without a Computer

"Even if you don’t have a computer, you can still backup iPad to an external drive. For this, you need to use a USB-to-lightning adapter so that you can easily connect your external hard drive directly to your iPad. Later, you can move your data (like your photos) from your iPad to your external hard drive."

Did he mean backup to an external connected directly to the iPad? If so, you’re right, iMazing wont help. I assumed he meant external on Mac or PC which is a common requirement because of the size backups can take on the boot drive.

This describes only how to copy images to a directly connected medium from your iPad. Currently the only single-source-for-reinstall-aka-full-ipad-backup/restore without a computer is iCloud Backup.

It's great you can run your business with an iPad,all that proves is you don't need a computer to run your business. An iPad is "technically" a computer, it has the parts a normal computer has but the OS is so crippled, you need a real computer to manage it.
I feel like this is objective truth

Objective if everyone felt that way, but it's really subjective because many of us don't. I don't need a computer to manage what I do on my iPad. My iPad is fine as a stand alone, and iPad OS does everything I need it to to take care of the mobile side of my real estate and property management business. I am very happy with iPad OS, and it just keeps getting better.

Can i ask a bit more about the backup software available? Do they backup apps in a way that they can be retrieved after an unsatisfying update or in case the app is removed from the app store? And do these software options retain old backups in the way Time Machine does?

The absence of native full backup to external drives is one of iPadOS’s biggest faults imo. No wonder this thread turned into such a battlefield.

What are the legit reasons the iPad can't run Xcode?
While this is not the topic of this thread, have you looked into Swift Playgrounds? It has full SwiftUI development capabilities. You can change from Mac to iPad and back developing the same App seamlessly. Everything gets synchronized through iCloud. I'm really surprised how good it works!

Simple method to get photos to an external SSD: Select a group of photos in your photos app. Select the Share icon, and move them to the Files App. In the Files App, you can create a new folder, then select and move your photos to that folder. Connect your SSD until you see it in the Files App. Then Select and Move that new folder to the SSD. Not much more cumbersome that using (or paying for) a 3rd party app. I like this method, as I can create and name a folder that pertains to a particular group of photos.

This is what I do,, except I skip one of your steps. I create the folder right on the external drive and just copy/share/move to files from photos app directly to the external drive. ;)

As the title says, is there any way to fully back up a iPad Pro 12.9” M2 to an external drive? The iPad is already backed up to iCloud, and I know I can back up the files in the Files folder to an external drive, but I can’t backup the Photos app. Is there any app or software that would allow me to backup the entire Photos app? Thanks in advance. Ps: I know I can back up the iPad to a Mac, but I would like to back it up to an external USB-C Hard Drive.
if your photos are sync'd to icloud, then you can sync those to your mac, and then backup the library from there.

I meant backup to an external stand-alone drive, not to a Mac.
