A lot of the people here are kind of social retards. Anyway..

I say if it works, who cares if its genuine. If I could find a fake that works and looks the same but costs less, I'd buy it in a heart beat. Usually the fakes arent worth it though. In this case, I'd say it would be where it's just a cable.

I sell refurbished iPods and iPhones all the time with 'fake' sync cables. Basically because they do the job and are a fraction of the cost. I don't advertise them as OEM or Genuine and I've never had a customer come back to me saying the cable doesn't work.
I did get a batch of cables that didn't stay in the sockets properly, the little metal clips weren't positioned correctly but this was a one off and since then I have received flawless cables.
They don't have an Apple logo on them but do have the USB icon on them, so I can't see how you could call them fake unless they attempt to look like an original. Like I said, if someone asks me I tell them they are copies.

Dunno if its a new thing, but Apple DO print on the cable.
Two of mine from iPad3 have very very faint "Designed by Apple in California Assembled in China" on them near the plugs.

Very hard to see, need strong light and good eyes, but its there
