It’s quite apparent these are a bit constrained...

Anyone who thinks there was outlandish, out of control, truly insatiable, pent up demand for $550 over ear headphones, from any designer/manufacturer, is off base.

All types of ear/headphones are sort of in niches as it is honestly, as there are so many different preference, ear and head shapes and usage cases.

Nothing dumb about it if one has the disposable income. The quality of materials is above Bose QC35 and Sony xm4’s. If the sound and ANC is as great as Apple states they will be worth the price especially if you live in the Apple ecosystem.

Everyone will own a pair of these. People were saying the same thing about AirPods when they came out and they took over. When you compare prices for the tech, styling, and what's offered. They are priced pretty well. If you want to compare them to Sony, then you have no idea what people will pay for in style and brand.

When you say everyone, you can’t really mean EVERYONE. I don’t own any over the ear headphones, let alone anything with noise cancellation. Not everyone needs it. If I travelled on mass transit frequently or had noisy neighbors I’d probably already own a pair of Bose or Sony’s. I don’t know how good the AirPods Max are, but they would have to REALLY be amazing to make me upgrade, especially at that price point. I’m sure Apple will sell every pair they make, but until I need them, they won’t include me in that category.
This is not in any way to dispute the cultural clout that these will come with. They look good and while the price is high, imho, this will not stop people from wanting them when they see others wearing them.

I'd wager that Apple underestimated demand else they would have held off the announcement. Every delayed shipment risk loss of sale for someone who needs a set of headphones right now and will have to get a XM4 or Bose instead.

Exactly. There are supply issues. Apple probably haven't manufactured en masse because its a niche market unlike the phones and watches. Parts will need to be sourced from various manufacturers and those parts are in short supply.
I ordered a new Mercedes in August and just been told that i will get it in March. Thats 7 months!!! We live in unusual times.

What did you get if I may....? I ordered my fully optioned E350W the end of Aug. and it was delivered a week ago.

They haven’t missed the Christmas season, you have ..... clearly they have sold everything destined for the US market before Christmas ..... Not unlike many popular products at this time of year, I seem to remember searching the shops of London when my kids were small for whatever was the popular toy that year .... So nothing new with what’s happened to Apple.

What did you expect ? .... they keep a pair held back just in case you decided to order them ?
