How quiet is the Acasis TBU405 with the fan? Is the fan noisy?

Do your external SSD drives behave like this for you?
Nope. But yes, they can get hot (both mechanical and SSD's) depending how much these are used. Many people don't notice because their drives are internal, or they barely touch their external drives.

Most computers CUT the power to USB peripherals during sleep, or at leas they let you choose to do so via settings. At least the iMac I'm using right now (2009) doesn't allow cutting power to the USB ports, this might become an issue.

The OP's enclosure is Thunderbolt 3, I believe, not USB. I may have missed it, but I didn't see anyone in this thread with a TB3-connected NVME SSD saying that theirs was cool to the touch during sleep.

I wonder if the OP's situation is "normal" (though undesirable) during sleep for this type of connection of an NVME SSD? It does seem very odd to me, though...

Worth checking the model, the specifics. Someone at Amazon (reviews) explains his own mod to cool down the drive, this specific model.

mod I made to TBU 405 for lower heat buildup - see attached pictures.
note: with the holes drilled doesn't NEED the fan. Fan was my first attempt to fix this and it worked on it's own, but I didn't want to drag fan and 12v wall wart around.

Note the feet to allow air flow to bottom. Also note holes are drilled so the air flows in the bottom and has to flow across the bottom of the board to rise out of the opposite side.
I also munged up inside of case with Dremel tool to allow a few gaps between side of case and board so air can flow up the same side as the holes on top .
And I quit using the fan unless I am at home and it is easy to just turn it on.

Again - if you don't have one yet, buy the one (TBU405 pro) with fan built in.

If you already bought the TBU405 and have a few tools, maybe a way to fix it.

With no fan, just feet/holes to help air flow it stays in high 30 C
to low 40 C range when used as a drive for VMs (Virtual Machines).

I don't own that so I don't know, but after some googling, I've found results of heat issues with external drives. And I'm a bit surprised by this:

How quiet is the Acasis TBU405 with the fan? Is the fan noisy?
exactly, some external SSD's come with a fan? wow

I knew some mechanical hdds had it, some mostly for the internal power source, some for the drives.

Thanks for the info.., but it does not talk about if the fan is quiet or not.

Does anyone have this model? How quiet is it?
