Good examples of scratches are on your desk, left of the laptop. On the laptop, that's definitely a moderate dent.

Trading In, while convenient, is rarely at your advantage. I would go the used market route.

Just imagine you bought a brand new MacBook with this issue. What would you think? I bet you would return it or you would ask for a major price reduction. So no, it's not a minor scratch.

Yep, the difference between a scratch and a dent depends on whether you’re buying it or selling it.

If you're handy, you can probably replace the top case with one like this one on eBay. You'll take a bigger hit than the top case costs if you trade it in. Best would be to fix it then sell it instead of trading in.
