Is this the year of the iPhone nano (or mini)?

I think a smaller, multitouch iPhone with no 3G data or 3rd party apps would be a possibility.

What's the point of that? Seems like it would be a step backwards in my opinion.

To address the 85% of the mobile phone market (1,000,000,000 phones annually) that does not choose to purchase a smartphone and does not want to pay for a data plan. Similar margins and appeal as an iPod nano with a 10x larger market.
