Is your 7,1 Mac Pro quieter than your old Mac Pro?

If that's the background noise, does the 5.1 sound completely or almost completely silent to you?

Background noise is at about 28dB. The fans are too loud to me. Interesting, the diference is only about 8dB. But the fans produce some kind of vibrating noise which is quite high. Sounds like having an aircondition right next to me

Actually I hope that I won't hear the new MacPro at all.

That's much louder with it on, 8dB is a lot of noise increase. I can tell you that even my possibly louder MP 7.1 is only around 2dB louder above ambient, in a 24dB room - so it will be much quieter for you.

Ah, thanks, glad to hear.

The other thing I have noticed is the apparent loudness. If you put your ear against the front grill of the MP7.1 it subjectively sounds as loud as my MP 6.1. However, the sound is imperceptible when even slightly off axis.

So I downloaded the app, and turned off my room fan (pretty quiet itself). I had to hold my breath to get the lowest reading, about 25 dB. This is with the phone sitting on my desk about 18 inches (the microphone end) from the front of the 7,1. I turned it around to get a reading with the microphone end 14 inches from the 7,1, and a small plane went by overhead, so I waited, and then someone went by playing loud music in their car (I could hear the bass faintly). After waiting about 5 minutes to try and get a quiet period where I could hear no outside noise and failing, I have to say that the 7,1 is quieter than any of the usual noises in my environment, so I never hear it.

It's quieter and also the thick case seems to mute the sound of the fans on my Syba I/O Crest and Highpoint 7103 cards. We'll see when I get my Aorus 5700 XT.

When it was at 25dB could you hear the blower fan?

Very interesting, you’re giving me a little hope...

I'm in my 50's so my hearing isn't what it used to be. That said, my breathing (barely audible) was louder to the phone about a foot away than whatever sound the 7,1 is making. I had to hold my breath to get it to drop from about 28 to 25. There was no perceptible sound of anything from the 7,1, and I'm not sure I could isolate any more sound out, as I don't have a need for an ultraquiet environment, so there's always something out there making just a tiny bit of noise.

At the time I was using about 2-3 cores out of the 12. I haven't tried doing a sound test with it ramped to max on all cores.

That’s very good to hear. I’m sure Parzival will be glad to hear that as well. I’m guessing if it is a problem with certain blowers it’s going to take a while to fix from a supply chain perspective.

Anyone else have other experiences in 25dB environments?

mine is definitely louder than my previous macMini+eGPU Pro setup and maybe a little bit louder than my 6.1 MP
My room is very quiet .. I haven't measured it with the mentioned app yet . A similar app (dynaudio meter) showed around 22db without anything on.
I'll do some tests soon when I'm back in my studio.
I noticed that one of the fans is always at 600 rpm , all others are at 500rpm.

I'm in Germany.
I'm a little shocked to read that it could be that the American produced ones are quieter.

Another case of a louder fan. You do have a quiet room like mine. You can try turning off the side blower (I inserted some paper briefly into the blower) to isolate the fan and confirm. Mine was China made delivered to UK.

Yes my room is very quiet (using it for music production) . I can clearly tell it's coming from the side blower. I'm not feeling safe sticking a paper into it - but when I move around the Mac it's obvious where the noise comes from.
My MP came from China too.

All that post is based on your personal assumption that noise levels have been measured with all the other Mac located on top of the desk while the 7.1 was under the desk, something that you have no real information about. Again, you should verify your assumtion with some actual facts before claiming one system is louder than the other;)
