I am thinking the fully loaded 13" could replace my current computer AND my iPad, which certainly makes the price easier to swallow. Anyone already done this?

I use an iMac, MBP and iPad now. The Air will replace the MBP, but the iPad and iMac will stay. No option for this either :).

Both. I currently am using an outdated macbook pro from about 2007 (its pre unibody design) that is so cluttered right now its really a pain to use. I've had an ipad for about 2 months now (16gb wifi) that I use as my "laptop" because my mbp basically stays in clamshell mode on my monitor, but again hardly ever use. As cool as I think the iPad is, I really haven't found that "vital" need for it, but moreso a cool toy with interesting apps that could help me but I for sure don't need it. So I just put both up on Craigslist. i'm not expecting much at all for the MBP (and may just do a clean install of SL on it, install Plex and attach an external HDD and use it as a media center instead of getting a mac mini) but I think I can get a decent amount for my iPad (possibily 450 or so, its in perfect condition in an apple case). And then buying the 13" MacBook Air base model with the upgraded 4gb ram. Eventually replace my monitor with the apple 27" and be set!

My MBA 11" is going to make it so I don't have to lug around my 17" laptop all the time. I'll keep my iPad for fun little games and simple browsing. The MBA will be for multitasking and small bits of work in photoshop. Also hoping to get Starcraft II running on it smoothly :D

So:
17" MBP - stay at work still have portable for meetings
Mac Pro - home computer used for freelance work and heavy lifting like photo/video editing
13" Macbook - Taken over by the girlfriend
11" Macbook - mobile computer for me. can handle light gaming and light photoshop work
iPad - used almost solely to consume media and play simple games.

I currently have a 2007 Aluminum iMac.
A 2008 Aluminum MacBook (the only non FW, non Pro Aluminum MacBook).
And an iPad.

When the iPad gets a front camera and FaceTime the iMac, current iPad, and MacBook will be sold and replaced by a new iMac and the new iPad.

I won't have any need for a laptop other than what I can do with my iPad.
Currently we use the MacBook a lot for webcam sessions so that grandparents can see grandkids. When the iPad can do that at the breakfast table, goodbye MacBook. Upgrade iMac.

The only issue is that currently I can iChat on the MacBook with other desktop iChat clients and Skype as well. With FaceTime for desktop, it only runs on 10.6.4 and so my mom on her PowerBook won't be able to iChat to the FaceTime on iPad and my dad will need to upgrade his iMac from 10.5 to 10.6. And my wife's parents who use Skype on their PC won't be able to webcam until Skype on the iPad supports webcam, which I don't believe even Skype on the iPhone does over WiFi. So some compatibility hurdles there, but I'm sure some of that will iron itself out.

Not mine, but a new 13" MBA is replacing my wife's three-year old Gateway laptop and her iPad 64GB+3G.

Interesting question. I haven't ordered the MBA yet but I'm trying to find an excuse to do it.

I have a 1-year-old Macbook and a wi-fi iPad and I'd love to get the 11" MBA, just because it looks like a jewel. I'm wondering about the overlapping though. I think I'd keep the Macbook with its 13" display for heavy tasks such as Windows in Parallels, Lightroom, Dreamweaver and the like, and use the MBA for all the rest. But then what about the iPad? I use it most of the time as eBook reader and the MBA couldn't do that as conveniently, but isn't it too much of an overlap?

I could sell the Macbook and get a 13" MBA, but I fell in love with the 11" display. It reminds me of my Powerbook 12". I can see I don't need it, but I'd love to get it anyway. I'm torn.

Right now, neither. I don't own an iPad and I have no immediate plans for an MBA. I may change my mind on either, but for the moment, I'm standing pat with my set of computers

Unless you are only using the iPad for web and email, I don't see how it can replace an iPad. The iPad has a ton of very useful apps I can't get on the Mac. For example, the weather channel app on the iPad I find better than their website. Any reading app is way better on the iPad.

I only have an iPad at the moment. There are still things that I need a computer for that sadly, the pad can no longer take care of.

The iPad will morph into a 11" air with 4gb in two Fridays :D

Just sold my iPad 3G 32Gb today. Got nice 710euros for it :). Also after the MBA has arrived, I'll sell my 13" MBP too. So it's replacing both!

Eh?
Neither.

I use the iPad to browse the web, read PDFs, use epicurious cookbook, check Google maps, look at stocks, check local weather, watch podcasts, show youtube clips to people, play some games, watch movies/netflix.

I will use the MBA for programming, blogging, word processing, note taking, VNC, remote management, access portal to servers, video skype/IM, filing taxes, processing orders/reciepts, spreadsheets, light video/image editing, light gaming and other OSX apps that I want to run that I couldn't on the iPad

I use the Mac Pro for 3D modeling, animation, rendering, HD video editing, video encoding, large scale Photoshop projects, archiving, bluray ripping/burning and high-end gaming, data server, OpenCL and mathematical analysis.

To break it down regarding my computer usage, I'm 70% on my iPad 30% on my Mac Pro. Adding the MBA cuts my iPad usage in half, delegating optimal productivity to each of these devices. In turn, I save energy by not wasting CPU cycles on my MacPro just to surf the web.

:)

None of the above, iMac stays in the office, Air is for the couch, and iPad 3G is for surfing the web when I'm away from a wifi network.
