I sold my 32gb wifi ipad and put the money towards the upgrades on the 11.6 macbook air. I have a 15 inch i7 macbook pro as my main computer, and I have a mac mini as a media hub attached to my plasma tv.

I loved the coolness of the ipad, but never really found much serious use for it. I like to type, and the macbook air, really fits my needs better.

My MBA 11" is going to make it so I don't have to lug around my 17" laptop all the time. I'll keep my iPad for fun little games and simple browsing. The MBA will be for multitasking and small bits of work in photoshop. Also hoping to get Starcraft II running on it smoothly :D

So:
17" MBP - stay at work still have portable for meetings
Mac Pro - home computer used for freelance work and heavy lifting like photo/video editing
13" Macbook - Taken over by the girlfriend
11" Macbook - mobile computer for me. can handle light gaming and light photoshop work
iPad - used almost solely to consume media and play simple games.

I'm returning my iPad, I'm within 15 days and putting the money towards the $999 Macbook Air. I'm also going to sale my netbook to my little cousin. So, I'm replacing my iPad and netbook.

I voted for replacing iPad. I got my 11.6", 128GB two days ago and so far, I am loving it, but I do find myself torn. I currently have my iPad listed on Ebay but I really do enjoy my iPad and my apps (have bought quite a few) and hands-on experience that comes with using it (except the fingerprints!). So, a big part of me wants to keep both, although the original plan was to sell the iPad to help finance the MBA...and, too, I'm pretty certain one of them would wind up collecting dust when all is said and done as I really don't need both. I also have my 17" MacBook Pro i7 for the heavy stuff-mainly Aperture and Photoshop.

I think I might just leave it up to fate for now...I have two days to go on my Ebay listing, if the iPad doesn't sell, then I might hold off re-listing for a bit and see how things go, give it some more thought. On the other hand, the next revision of the iPad isn't that far away probably (April is when they came out) and so what if I go ahead and sell my current one? if I miss it that bad, I can get the next revision in a few months. Sigh. Chasing my tail here!

I'm shocked to see so many people selling their iPad for the MBA. I love my iPad and I think I would only replace it with an iPad 2. And yet that 11" MBA is so sexy, it got me thinking. iOS and multi-touch are great but sometimes I get frustrated and go back to my iMac or Macbook for some things. I wonder if this will change with iOS 4.2.

Since I don't use my iPad much my dad is buying it from me, and I'm currently using a 2.26 GHz MBP as my main computer, so I plan on my MBA replace that.

I voted for replace my iPad only.

I was always planning on selling my iPad (64GB 3G) for a few reasons. When I first bought it, I wasn't planning on keeping it forever. I knew that I'd probably want the new version that will come out, so I figured I'd have fun with it now and sell it before rumors start coming up for a new version so I get the most money back.

Ever since I graduated college, I use my iPad less and less and my laptop more and more. I'm in the process of applying to Med school and I know most schools stream their lectures which can't be viewed on my iPad so when the 11.6'' Air came out, it was a no-brainer. Sell my iPad now and pay for my Air (which is more productive).

Maybe I should've waited until next year to decide but honestly...I got the cash now. Why wait?

13" MBA replacing 08 Mini and iPad. Next purchase will be an updated/next gen iMac but for now this more than covers my needs. Have 2TB of wireless storage via my Airport extreme, 256ss onboard the MBA when I'm out of the house and Mobileme for anything in between. I will have a 17" Windows based PC next month from a new job that is more than enough for a "desktop" replacement so I'll use that if I have the need for video encoding or other CPU intensive work.

I just sold off my MBP 13" 2.4 and also 32gb ipad and am replacing with a 11" MBA.

I can't wait to get it as I realised that 90% of my time is basic work only when on the laptop + Ipad.

I have a macpro still for heavy duty work.

Should all be perfect.

BTW I only got 64gb ssd as I really can't see the point in upgrading it further when I have a desktop. Music is all on the iphone, and I share my files with the mac pro :)

i'd consider losing the iPad if I hadn't upgraded iOS to 4.2 Beta 3.

It's better than what people are using now.

The iPad has it's uses. If I where to sell it, I know sooner or later i would regret it and actually buy another.

So I think i'll just skip those two steps ;)

i'd consider losing the iPad if I hadn't upgraded iOS to 4.2 Beta 3.

It's better than what people are using now.

I've had my iPad jailbroken since the first jailbreaks became available for it, and being able to multitask does make it a lot more useful. More recently, I found an app store app called FileBrowser that allows me to copy files to and from my iPad and my home/work networks. Now, I can copy a document off my computer to my iPad, edit it, and copy it back to my computer without going through work arounds like emailing it to myself or uploading then downloading it from the cloud. I use the iPad mostly for reading websites and ebooks, posting to forums, and casual games like Angry Birds or Bejweled. But it also lets me get real work done while I'm on the subway or bus, or sitting at a coffee shop.

For instance, the other day, I went to the Apple store to check out the Air, then sat down at the bench for people waiting for their Genius appointments, and tapped away on my iPad while I waited for a friend to show up. The Air might have been a better tool for that job, considering I was typing up a business letter, but I'm much more likely to be carrying my iPad with me. I wasn't expecting to have to wait for my friend when I left my house, so I wouldn't have known ahead of time that I'd have a chunk of free time I could use for work. I don't think I'd carry around the Air "just in case," but carrying the iPad everywhere is a no-brainer. And the Air, or even the biggest notebooks, is just not as comfortable for "real" multi-hour work sessions as a real desktop with a full-size keyboard and monitor. So the iPad takes care of my portable computing needs, and I have desktops at home and office. As cool and sexy as the new Air is, in my case, if I get one, that will be the "toy." If I needed to make a lot of business trips, or maybe an extended vacation during which I needed to get some work done, then maybe the Air might make more sense, but right now, I don't do either. To me the iPad is computer enough, and nothing beats it in terms of portability. Well there's the iPhone/iPod touch, but *those* are too small!

I have a desktop PC and an iPad 64GB Wifi.I was considering to buy the MBA 13" but i won't sell my iPad because I pay most of the time surfing the web/watching vids/reading books and PDF files with my iPad, also I use "pages" quite often for making documents.
So if i get the MBA 13",I'll do some tasks that iPad can't do such as PhotoShop,Xcode etc
