iPad Pro Is your iPad Pro 9.7 screen yellowish ?

I tried 3 different iPads Pro and all of them had this yellow tinted screen (True Tone disabled)

Here is one with an iPad Air 1 on the left.

Have you noticed the same issue with yours? Looks like everybody is amazed with the screen quality so I'm a bit puzzled.

Could this be a defective batch?

It isn't just you. I have had 2 now and both had warmer displays compared to my 12.9" and mini 4. First one also had a section of bare metal top left near the glass and the 2nd one had a dark corner top left and the bottom part of the screen had a pinkish tinge. Don't think I can be bothered trying again.

Mine has a cool even screen but I have come to prefer using true tone which makes it warmer and easier on the eyes. Even with true tone it only looks "yellowish" by comparison for a moment until my eyes adjust and then it looks like a warmer white. iPad screens have always varied in screen color and if you aren't happy I would try another - different store may help. In the past I've gotten up to 4 before finding a screen I was happy with but that was primarily because of uneven color shift. My iPad mini 4 has a warmer tone that looks yellow next to my other devices but is perfectly even and when using it away from the other devices it looks perfectly white. It's amazing how your eyes can adjust.

I was at the Apple store confirming this very thing for myself in my case. That True Tone was Apples way of selling a returnable complaint into a feature. Yellowish displays

Its been known to happen (below is video example not my video)

I have already confirmed that the 9.7 Pro Display Smears text when scrolling fast about twice as much as the iPad Air 2 but its not present when watching videos or looking at pictures its just the custom timing controller is driving the display slower to save batter while web browsing.

Also my iPad Pro 9.7 is equal to an iPad Air 2 with True Tone off in terms of color temperature in fact the iPad Air 2 was so cool white blueish (which I like more) after just a few seconds my eyes tend to preffer my 9.7 Pro right away colors look richer less washed out and cold, and that with True Tone OFF. So it was perfect.

With True Tone on things gets slightly warmer but adjust in seconds to your room lighting so it gets that Paper look which I like right away Especially at Night. I don't want to be looking at a CCFL LED looking bulb.

I am super Picky about Displays and against the best I have a 5.7 inch OLED Samsung Note 5 the Pro 9.7 Colors and Brightness do not let you down and vs an OLED side by side thats impressive.

If your Pic is really with True Tone off thats a no questions return for me.

Is the pro "yellowish" or does it just use a warmer color temperature? I could make the same thread asking if the Air is "too blue".

Most people are used to a cooler display temperature, even if in a lot of cases the colors aren't very accurate.

Not sure what display has more accurate whites, but after using my calibrated plasma TV for a while I always feel like my iPhone or iPad's are too blue.

I'd stick with it.

Compared directly to an iPad Air 2, my iPad pro 9,7 shows a slightly warmer white. It looks more like a piece of paper, than like a blueish LCD display. That's ok for me.
Unfortunately it ihas a minor loss of brightness to the left edge and upper left corner. So white and grey look a little dirty in these regions.

I was comparing it to the Air 2 yesterday and the white level on the new Pro is definitely warmer w/ True Tone off. The rest of the colors looked the same on the Pro.. perhaps a bit more saturated.

I think I prefer the cooler display of the Air 2, but I also have a glass screen protector on the Pro (never had one on the Air). This makes the display more reflective, and I think that may factor into me preferring the Air 2, as well.

I noticed this yellowish screen of the 9.7 iPad Pro's when I checked them out at the Apple Store. In fact at one point I went to settings to turn off true tone thinking it was on but it was already off. Not sure what they were thinking if these yellowish screens were intended, they look bad.

Compared to my phone and laptop, the iPad with true tone off actually reads like it has a weaker red channel, or conversely the other two read like they are a touch purple. True tone on, whites become that cream colour though, so I'm pretty sure the screen is capable of running the gamut.

I've gotten a bum screen before so ultimately if it's distractingly bad go for a swap, but I'd just caution against reading too much into how different displays look next to each other.

My one thought on this whole true tone thing, and how people marvel at how bad it supposedly looks when you turn it off and "how did I ever live without this" type statements, is that the brain in general is pretty good at white balancing to whatever you throw at it. I'd contend that what throws people is the sudden shift in and of itself. If you use *any* display for 5-10 minutes then suddenly shifted the temperature it would look wrong at first, and then your eyes would adjust, and it'd again look weird going in the other direction.

I think it's nice that the shifts match the room ambience, but ultimately I think it's a bit overblown.

When I returned my 2nd one to the store and showed them the dark corner and I mentioned the Pink hue at the bottom. The first thing he says to me I think I know what is causing that. Before he went further I said and no it isn't the true tone. He stopped talking after that and refunded the iPad.

Put it next to a non iPad Pro and you will see the yellow hue. They have stated they made all the iPad Pro 9.7 screens slightly warmer than normal. Trust me, yours has it.

Mine doesn't look like those yellow examples in this thread. I've returned several MacBook Pros in the past for yellow tint, a few iPads, and 1 iPhone. I use a ColorMunki Display colorimeter with DisplayCAL on my desktop IPS monitors. I know yellow tint when I see it and my Pro 9.7 doesn't suffer from it. My Mini 4 is too white / cool and looks blueish next to the new Pro (although I don't mind cooler white, it's not accurate white). My iPhone 6S is about the same as my 9.7 Pro. Not too cool and not too warm, it's how it should be. To each his own I guess.

Same here. The screen on my 9.7 Pro is the best I've ever seen, and I've seen (and bought and returned) many over the years due to screen problems.

This. When I got my 9.7" Pro I was happy, then I decided to compare screens with my Air 1, wanting to see the difference in color gamut and such. I noticed it was a bit yellower looking then. I became worried, then I pulled out my iPhone 6 Plus and boyfriend's iPad mini 3. The Pro was actually closest to my iPhone in warmth. The mini looked pink. We'd never noticed these differences before. So, being that my two iOS devices were now very close, I was happy and still am.

I'm not questioning what the OP sees but every time a new iOS device is released there are always many people complaining that the screen of this new device is way more yellowish than the previous one they own. Over these years, new iOS devices must be completely yellow by now (joking). But it didn't happen. So I'm not sure if the screen tone is simply some kind of lottery or a general trend of getting more yellowish.

I find the screen of my iPad Pro 9.7 to be way more yellowish than the big iPad Pro but mostly due to True Tone. It may be a software bug, but all I see what True Tone does is to turn the screen yellowish. I never see it turns blue in fact.

With True Tone turn off it is still a bit more yellowish but I find the screen quality to be better than the big one overall, coz the backlight is not really even on the big iPad Pro. Or the big Pro is actually too blue? I am not sure.

I turned true tone off to check, and I suppose I've gotten so used to it that it looks too blue now lol. Definitely not yellowed

I have compared my 9.7 iPad Pro to my Air 2 and the screens are almost identical without True Tone on - both cool white, but the Air 2 has a very minimal book spine that my Pro does not. My mini 4 on the other hand has a much warmer white (not yellow) screen. Except for the hardly noticeable book spine on the Air 2, all 3 screens are perfectly even with no yellow anywhere and I have returned several iPads in the past because of yellow or uneven screens so I know one when I see it.

I exchanged one, it was too yellow.. compared to one I had bought from apple. even with same settings and same load. Are there TWO screens on these units?
