Nice article by Tech Crunch.
http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/07/18/att-is-a-big-steaming-heap-of-failure/

I'm glad I no longer have At&t. I'm loving my Black Berry Tour on Verizon, the best network in America. I do miss my iPhone but At&t limits the iPhone too much.

And you are here because.... ?

A little bandwagon full of AT&T haters and people on Verizon with sore @sses because they did not get the iPhone. Boohoo. Would you like some cheese with your whine. You all really need to get over yourselves.

I WAS a Verizon customer for 13+ years. The network is great. I have had many dropped calls from them. Crap phones, crap interface and the WORST customer service. Picked up the iPhone late last year - my first ever Apple purchase and loved it. A month ago - we ditched Verizon and are now all on AT&T. I have received better service from AT&T in the last month, than the entire 13+ years I have been with Verizon. No joke. For the past YEAR I have been with AT&T, NO ISSUES. None. Signal is perfect all over except at home but I had that issue with Verizon.

So, in short - go moan and complain elsewhere. Spew your disdain over on the AT&T forums. Why here? If your not a customer of AT&T why are you even here to begin with? Might I also make mention that I am sure if ALL the iPhone users were on Verizon, they would have just the same amount of problems. You ever think about that? No, I don't think you have. I guess you never factored in the MASSIVE amount of users on one network. The only thing Verizon has is dumb phones and some BB users. That's about it. Slap in a few million iPhone users and we will see just how "good" their network really is. I hope V NEVER gets the iPhone. Ever.

Unfortunately I can't call you an idiot because it's against forums rules. If it was not, I would.

"Snip" for everyones sake...

Seriously? That article is very relevant. I didn't have visual voicemail for a while. Service is in and out a lot as well. Blame it on the iPhone? Maybe. Blame it on AT&T? Maybe. But it's happening.

You are one person (full family plan of iPhones? Then 5 persons). There are millions out there that are on iPhones with AT&T. You're assuming that if your service and experience is okay then everyone else's is as well. Sorry to say it but you're being short sighted.

I can agree with you that AT&T has had great customer service when I have needed something. I can also say that many of my friends have suffered from terrible customer service. I had Sprint and received bad CS. My aunt and uncle claim Sprint is the only way. Different colors for different people.

FTR: An idiot is defined as a stupid person. Stupid is defined as unable to use knowledge. Knowledge includes facts gathered. The fact is that not everyone has the same experience as you.

I could turn it around and say "the pot just called the kettle black" but then again I'd hate to break the forum rules.

Same goes for the article and the person insinuating that this is a NATIONWIDE issue with AT&T. It can go both ways. This day in age it seems if any small number of people have a problem, it's blown way out of proportion. To the point it becomes ridiculous. The main issue I have is all the people still complaining, yet are STILL CUSTOMERS. Call customer service, explain the issue, cancel the service and go elsewhere. How complex is that? After that, sell the phone, make some money and move on with your life. However, people don't do that. They choose to moan and complain and moan some more. As long as your paying the bill.. nobody cares. Not even AT&T. You think it's better elsewhere? I have some sad news for you. It's not.

These people HAVE A CHOICE. They just prefer not to and complain.

Verizon ehh.... Just another carrier. Just because those sprinkles represent the 80 million vw users don't mean their the best.

We just got back from a night out. Husband checks his phone, has a SLEW of voicemails from last FRIDAY. He just got them Thursday!!!

Very very important business messages. He's pissed. They were critical messages. Timely messages. About 8 of them. 3GS on 3.0.

What is going on? We've had our iPhones since the first launch, morphed to the 3G, then 3GS. Prior to now, VM worked flawlessly. Why on earth would there be a problem NOW after all this time?

I'll be calling tomorrow.

Visual Voice Mail not working

Visual Voice Mail not working
Well I didn't realize mine wasn't working for about a month until someone asked if I had gotten their message. Last message to show up was July3. Called AT&T (they never asked if my phone was jailbroken) they reset my voicemail which erased all voicemail. When I tried to set up voicemail using the phone it wouldn't do it. Kept getting hung up on "saving password" then give me an error message about not being able to connect to network. AT&T then had me setup voicemail using the keypad (dial 1) and that worked but visual voicemail still didn't. They then put me thru to senior tech support. They said to restore the original software (3.0) and set it up as a new phone. They said that there are apps that are breaking visual voicemail. Mind you, these are Apple approved apps from the App store, not jailbroken apps. They said they have had to tell a lot of people to do this in order to fix visual voicemail. They told me to start adding apps one at a time to make sure visual voicemail still worked after adding each app.

I did all of the above and it did work, but of course the phone isn't jailbroken and I had to setup my email again on the phone. I lost my photo roll but had most of them backed up on iPhoto but the AT&T person never mentioned this. Just kinda weird that this is happening with legit apps and neither Apple or AT&T are trying to do anything about it apparently.

My visual voicemail has not worked since I got the 3GS. Same with a friend of mine. I called at&t and they then put me through to a senior tech who told me that they have heard of the issue, but didn't have a fix yet...

calling again to wipe voicemail out.....

I have no hacks and have never jailbroken or used a hack on any iPhone. VVM is working for the most part but this week, it's been down at least 3 times for several hours.

Not sure if it's due to signal or what but sometimes my VVM will show that it's not working or will ask me for my password again at random times. This has been going on for a few weeks.

As of now VVM is working.

I've had a couple issues.

On some of my calls my phone doesn't ring. I get a short vibration and a missed call notification.
If that caller leaves a voicemail, I can't get a hold of that voicemail for a solid hour or til after I make a call for at least five minutes.

I just completed a full restore on the phone yesterday. We will see what happens now.
Grumble Grumble

This weekend I took my SIM card out, ( i was having "no visual voicemail" issues) After 2 phone calls to At&t with no resolution....I took my SIM card out, put in an old 3g sim card, booted up, powered down, and put my original SIM back in the phone, and by golly, it works now,......

don't know why, don't care why...it works, and that is what i did....
:D
