Prying into vending machines is bad. Using a crowbar from Home Hardware is bad. The fact that you can use a crowbar legitimately does not make it legitimate by default.

Sorry, but your analogy falls way short. A crowbar was created for legitimate work and then applied to illegitimate uses. iSlurp et. al. were created for illegitimate uses but can be used for legitimate ones.

Your example is valid, but as melchior pointed out, it's a step backwards in functionality. Regular file transfer (ftp, afp, etc) are much better ways to accmplish the same thing, and you can just stream your own music remotely. I really don't see the need to use a kludge like that, other than to try to justify the use of the tool.

Well, I still use it, and here's why. I don't always have my machine set up for FTP sharing (or afp for that matter), but I do have iTunes on. So, rather than trudge downstairs, set up file sharing, get everything configured and mess around with it, I just fire up itunesdl and grab the files I need. It's "one file at a time", but it's pretty easy to queue up as many as you need.

Also, believe it or not, I have something like 6 macs in my house. Rather than even thinking about "is this one set up for file sharing", I can just browse through itunes. It really is convenient, trust me.

So, your argument fails becuase I really do use it - and I was using it for just this purpose before I thought about justifying its discussion on Macrumors.

To each their own, but turning on file sharing is as easy as, if not easier than (firewall settings), setting up iTunes sharing.

You would still be able to get your files without iSlurp. Other people couldn't steal files without it.
