The only way to downgrade Ventura without erasing the main drive would be to go back to the macOS shipped with the Mac using Internet Recovery (Shift-Opt-Cmd-R at startup). Any RECOVERY install can be done without erasing the User Data. E.g. on my MP 10,1, I'd have to go back to Mountain Lion, then re-try installing Monterey 12.6.4 or Ventura 13.2.1 from USB. As @bogdanw mentioned, links to older macOS installers can be found on Mr. Macintosh's site.

TO PREVENT USER DATA CORRUPTION, you should create a dummy account (name it "downgrade") and use that to perform this process. You should make a backup, just in case (but then, you could just do a clean install). Yes, it's going to take a whole day or two. You may have to re-install apps or at least let it rebuild itself by deleting all the config/prefs using AppCleaner (https://freemacsoft.net/appcleaner/).

But there is a problem...

BUT THERE IS A PROBLEM. MacOS Mountain Lion cannot mount APFS volumes. So you can't revert to the OS an old Mac shipped with without formatting the main drive.

So the second safest way is to install an older version of Monterey or Ventura with OCLP onto an external startup disk, copy your user folders to the external disk while keeping the original intact, test out everything, then format the internal storage, and do everything all over again. This way, you have two working startup volumes and two copies of the Users folder just in case anything goes wrong.

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum. I have an Imac 27" late 2012 and I successfully installed ventura (now up and running for months). Unfortunately after upgrading to 13.3 the ONLY problem encountered is with the preview app (which is fantastic). The problem is that if I have an image on my desktop the thumbnail is displayed correctly, but if I try to open it with the preview app I only see a gray square. In reality it is only a display problem; let me explain: if I make changes to the image (for example drawing above a square and I save the image, the change is made (obviously I open the image with another app). It's like everything is working fine but when you open the image for some reason it doesn't show. I attach a screenshot to be clearer. Has anyone had the same thing happen or do you have any suggestions?
Thank you very much for the attention
Ale
i have exactly the same issue after the last Ventura update 13.3 , image files dont open with preview app , it opens for a split second then turns grey , same as the photo attached

i have the same issue after the last ventura update with opencore 0.6.2 macbook air late 2012 , only image files turn grey , everything else opens fine with preview

So, I just updated to Ventura 13.3.1 and restarted. After restarting, the screen was set to a super high resolution and everything was microscopic. After logging in, OCLP let me know that the Root Patches needed to be re-installed – specifically, the NVIDIA kext files. But before restarting, I tried opening the JPG files with Preview.app. It worked. The JPGs showed without being covered by the background color! But after installing the NVIDIA kext files and restarting, I get the gray screen again. So obviously, the issue is with the NVIDIA kext files included in OCLP 6.2 (and 6.3 nightly) is not compatible with Ventura 13.3.x.

BTW, the artifacts around the small icons in System Preferences disappeared with Ventura 13.3.1; there must be something different with the .icn?

Let's identify the kext responsible. If you run in Terminal
Code:
kmutil showloaded | grep -v com.apple.
it should return loaded kexts that are not from Apple. The kext responsible should be among them.

OCLP is an absolute mess.
Changelog for 0.6.1 "Avoid usage of KDKlessWorkaround on hardware not requiring it"
What does KDKlessWorkaround do? Who knows ...
It seems to be for AMD graphic cards https://github.com/flagersgit/KDKlessWorkaround
So, it probably shouldn't be on your system.

And you don't have https://github.com/acidanthera/WhateverGreen that provides fixes for NVIDIA.
