Issues downloading files from iPhone

Hello.

In the past I had an iPhone 6S Plus that I used solely for shooting photos/videos. After each day of shooting, I used "Image Capture.app" on my rMBP to download photos off of my iPhone and onto my Mac. (I used the setting to :Delete after import".)

This workflow seemed to work well, and usually only to maybe up to 5 minutes to download maybe up to 1,200 phots or a handful of larger videos.

Today I am at a library out-of-state, and trying to download what I have shot over the last few days. This includes 107 items almost all of which are photos, with one video interview that went 40 minuytes and another one that lasted maybe 10 minutes.

My phone says that I used up 25GB of data.

So my new iPhone 11 Pro Max is tethere to my rMBP, and in "Image Capture.app" thngs are downloading at a snail's pace, plus what is strange/concerning is that as it says an image has been downloaded, nothing is showing up (yet) in the destination fodler on my rMBP.

The library closes in 1 1/2 hours, and I'm getting nervous that this download won't be done in time - have been going at things now for maybe 20 minutes.

Why don't photos/vidoes appear as they are downloaded?

And is there a faster (and safer) way to download things off of my iPhone to my early 2015 rMBP?

My iPhone has a 256GB SSD, and I fear that if I go out and shoot video all day, that I'll never get things off-loaded onto my laptop quick enough. (DOn't want to sit in a coffee shop or some library all day while things download?!)
 
I got scared and createdthis thread because after like 30 minutes, only maybe one-half of my IMG files have downloaded, and the progress bar in "Image Capture.app" shows like 15% progress?! :eek:
 
When I plug my iPhone into my rMBP using a USB-A to Lightning cable, there are still about 10 videos that will not download.

I keep getting this error in "Image Capture.app"...

The operation couldn't be completed.
(com.apple.ImageCaptureCore error -9937.) (-9937)
An error occured while importing.  The item "IMG_0109"was not imported.

I've had this error happen occassionally with my iPhone 6S Plus, but it was pretty rare, and usually just on one photo that maybe seemed to be corrupt.

I sure hope that I didn't lose nearly an hour of interviews...

What do I need to do to get these remaining videos off of my brand new iPhone 11 Pro Max running iOS 13 and onto my MacBook Pro?

Texas - Check your Phone > Settings > Photos > Transfer to Mac or PC > Set to Keep Originals not Automatic.

If it set to Automatic it may be trying to convert the photos or images and this is usually the explanation of why the download takes so long. As it has to check every file.

Thanks, but that didn't work. Plus, I wouldn't want to keep the originals on my phone.

I want to do a "move" and not a "copy".

My iPhone 6S Plus is set to "Automatic" and works fine.

You're going to have to slowdown here, because I'm clueless on using an iPhone.

How do I rename one of the files?

And why am I doing that?

What "Music app"?

What do you mean by "drawing"?


More importantly...

Why is the transfer not working on these 10-12 videos?

I know a couple are quite large, but there are a couple that should be tiny.


And as an alternative plan, is there another way to *move* these files off of my iPhone 11 Pro Max onto my rMPB?

From what I have read, "Image Capture.app" often gets flaky when doing file transfers, especially with larger files.

I think you can you iTines, but I don't know how.

It's Saturday morning, and I need to get these files safely off my iPhone and onto my rMBP so I can get bacl out in the field and interview people, so some *quick* help would be greatly appreciated!!

I have no clue what you're talking about...

Um, I shoot video on my iPhone and then I use "Image Capture.app" to transfer things to my Mac.

I do NOT decide what my iPhone anmes the video files and I have no clue how you would even rename them...

Hi Texas - if you tried and made no difference then ok. However this has nothing to do with moving compared to copying, it only effects if the iPhone may convert the file if required before moving or not. Having this set to Automatic will impact file transfer speed. Keep original just means you phone does not check the format and transfers in whatever Original format the file is in, with no conversion.

So here is the deal...

I am away from home, and now is not a good time to upgrade from macOS Sierra to a newer OS.

I went into Settings > Camera > Formats and switched Camera Capture = Most Compatible

But that apparently won't fix the videos that I shot on Thursday on my iPhone.

So how can I get those videos off of my iPhone?

(To be clear, I want to *move* any and all photos and videos to Finder and NOT move things into Photos or iTunes. I need the raw files in Finder so I can do with them what I please.)
 
Yep that is your problem - You new iPhone is encoding in a better compression format - HEIF/HEVC, however as you are not using Sierra or later the phone has to convert to jpg/H.264 hence the long download times. I suspect your 6S was using an older version of iOS and not using the new HEIF/HEVC format.

So it sounds like these 10-12 videos are safe on my iPone 11 Pro Max, but were recorded using this newer HEIF/HEVC format and now my rMBP running macOS Sierra doesn't know what to do with them?

Is there an easy way to convert these videos - on my iPhone 11 Pro Max - and get them onto my rMBP?

Or are they stuck on my iPhone until I upgrade my OS?
 
As you would suspect, I have both my rMBP and my iPhone locked down pretty well...

I don't use the image capture app as most people either import directly into the Photo's App or similar App or use iCloud Photos. You should be able to use Air Drop mentioned above.

On my iPhone...

Bluetooth = On


On my rMBP under Network...
Code: 
Wi-Fi = On
Bluetooth PAN = Inactive


I don't see how to choose a Contact... (I have never had any "Contacts" on my devcies because they are purposely siloed from the outside world...)
 
Ok on your phone you can check Wifi and Bluetooth are on by going to control centre - swipe down from top left.

On you Mac turn bluetooth on by going into system preferences and bluetooth and turn it on

In Finder you should see an Icon for Airdrop, select it and choose 'Contacts only' Although you don't use it, you should be set as a contact on both your Mac and iPhone when you first set the device up automatically.

in macOS Sierra, under Settings > Bluetooth is says "On" and "Now discoverable as user2's MacBook Pro"
 
I think I figured out the issue...

I have no SIM card in my iPhone 11 Pro Max.

Will Airdrop work without a SIM card?

The antenna icon on my iPhone 11 is red.

Or is it red for another reason?
