Excellent to hear! Probably won't make it to 26.1 as that's already in beta, but maybe 26.1.1 or at least 26.2 (which might take a while still…)

My iPhone 15 Pro Max experience has always been flawless, just like my previous 14 Pro Max.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max suffered from an annoying pixelation bug when shooting in ProRaw format. I reported this issue, along with other members, and it was resolved in iOS 18.3.

The iPhone 17 Pro Max introduced a new software bug, causing blurriness and exaggerated softness in images, mainly in wide camera. Telephoto camera has been really good to my standards.

I agree that this 'problem' will likely be resolved with iOS 26.1 or a later update. Changing the image pipeline and processing is a complex, non-trivial task.

i'm not sure i'd buy it . they've said that by the past with another issue I had and they never fixed it

Well I did schedule an appointment and let them know ofc, the more people who report it the better

But yeah mine was physically defective too I believe so

I don’t shoot in proraw or 48mp often. I normally stay in 24mp HEIC and I am
Absolutely noticing a big difference in quality from my 16pro to my 17pro. I feel like my normal shots are no where near as sharp as they used to be. I’m finding less detail in faces and overall blurriness.

Its random though, some shots seems incredible detailed and sharp and others blurry even under the same conditions.

It’s pretty frustrating. I’m even noticing a slight difference between my 17pro and my wife’s. It’s very confusing.

It’s gotta be software related right? Could it just not dialed in yet?

The video shows the softness of the 4x lens, which is well known by now. The issue that many of us, myself included, however had, was a total loss of detail and blurriness, that cant be recovered in post. But as noted elsewhere, Apple seems to be aware of some issues.

After installing and indexing iOS 26.1 i don’t any issues with softness anymore in the wide camera.
ProRaw photos are now superb.

I have a new unit tho.

Must be the new unit, haven’t noticed any major changes with any of the software updates so far. But glad you got the issue sorted out finally! I’m still waiting for the final word from Apple engineers on my case…

Checked 3utools and i got the “DN8” (LG) Rear camera… idk if that make any difference. My previous ones were DNM…

I use ProCam and im having the exact same results in ProRaw 48, comparing to my 16 ProMax, that have also DN8 code in rear camera in 3utools.

Heres some components… some one better than others, that may result in slightly different results…

Where do you see the camera details on 3utools? Just installed it on my Mac and viewing my iPhone 17 Pro data, but can't seem to spot any details on the cameras amongst all the info…

It's available on Mac as well… BUT I made a stupid-ass n00b error and downloaded it from a fully convincing looking fake website with a convincing URL that came up way too high in Google results. Apparently it was a malware distribution site, so ended by doing a full wipe both for my MBP and iPhone, plus full round of password resets – and possibly quite a bit of personal files leaked to Russia 😬 Case in point: don't assume, verify, esp. with apps that require bypassing the Apple security layer upon installing (I assumed it was necessary anyway to distribute an app that can read data off the iPhone).

But back to the camera identification: my rear camera seems to be of the DN8 variant as well. Not sure if that information was worth the 1/2 workday lost plus the invasion of personal data privacy… 😅

Well that sucks! It really shows the inconsistency of apple iphones these days. I went into an AT&T store yesterday to check out the new iPhone again and hold it in my hand and play with the cameras Etc, it's still was pretty lousy. So I am not going to upgrade to the 17 pro max anytime soon. I think i'm too spoiled by samsung's cameras and the display on the galaxy S25 ultra compared to the iphone. The 200mp camera & expert raw is fantastic! Anyway, I'll keep my 16 Pro Max for quite a while. Until i'm forced to upgrade. I'd really like to have a new iphone but not with the camera issues that it's having. Essentially, I'd be purchasing the same exact cameras in a new body.
