Well, its the last week in septemer, anyone care to guess about iSync. Personally, I'm gagging for it. I'm so tired of using Entourage and palm desktop that I could flip out. They are good programs, but I prefeer mail and iCal these days. oh well, I say wndsday, given history, any takers?

I agree with Wednesday. Most new Apple software comes out on Wednesday. Since this is the last Wednesday, I would venture to say we will see it released.

I think we'll see it sometime on or before next Monday.

However, I don't know what calendar you have, but this is not the last week in September. Perhaps the last FULL week, but certainly not the last week.

iSync and the Palm Vx

Does anyone know if iSync will work with a Palm Vx? I am getting a GREAT deal on one ($65 for the Palm, Cradle, and Rhinoskin case) and am wondering if I will have to use Palm Desktop or if it will be compatible with iSync. Thanks for any info.

My guess: Wednesday. Just in time for when my Palm arrives (Thursday).

You're right of course.
Nitpicky and anal, but right.;)

Well then I'm too lazy to tell you.
Fair enough, I guess. Anyways, I did manage to find the strength to click over to Yahoo and type in iSync. It actually looks pretty cool. I guess that iSync would be a neat way to sync up a Palm Pilot.

I did notice that the only phones listed were Ericcsson ones. There was a link to "Bluetooth" on the page. I wonder if other manufacturer's bluetooth phones would work as well?

Does anyone know if iSync is linked up with iCal? How about Entourage?

Where the hell have you been? Everyone keeps asking the same stupid questions over and over agin. Check out http://www.apple.com/isync

It'll answer all your questions. And yes, that page has been up since iSync was announced at MWNY.

Yah, it's designed to work with iCal and OSX Address Book (I think Entourage outputs in industry standard format iCalender, so that should work too) - luckily I've got an Ericsson T68i and the Bluetooth Adaptor, and an iPod, so it'll be really cool. As for other devices (Palm etc.), I assume they'll need 3rd party drivers, rather than it being like the digital cam/camcorder thing, cos the drivers aren't built into the OS, and not be a case of plug-n-play? (or plug-n-pray in the winblows world...) :D

must be soon! :D :D

i personally acn't wait for this. Finally it will be easy to organize my life with my iPod.

It also shows others that an iPod IS worth the price. Hate to tell them "Told ya so"...Oh wait, I won't hate saying that. :D

Dude, simmer down. I've been to that Apple page. It doesn't mention anything about iCal. Not one mention of it. I asked a legitimate question. And I also asked about Entourage and whether it would sync with other Bluetooth cell-phones (other than Ericcsson's).

If you don't want to answer, then don't. What's with the smart-@$$ comments. Sheesh.

Partial Mobile Sync Answer

I believe (although of course I could be wrong) that iSync requires more than bluetooth to sync with a phone. IIRC it also needs the phone to support SyncML (an xml based open standard for syncronisation with any sort of device). To sync with a Palm it requires that Palm Descktop X is installed so I suppose that this is providing a SyncML data source to iSync and that the iPod sycn stuff is also using SyncML. At the moment no Nokia phone on the market supports SyncML, so even the ones with Bluetooth are unlikely to work with iSync. Of course there may be some way of providing a sort of "driver" that communicates with the phone in it's native format and translates that to SyncML for iSync.

Nokia is supported (sort of)

Nokia is making big noises about SynchML and they DO support some phones (well two communicators).

Have a look at:

http://www.nokia.com/syncml/products.html

However, I hope they may support 6310 via a software upgrade etc. This is Bluetooth so it would make sense for it to be able to Sync. It works very well with Bluetooth and the Palm / G4 Ti.

However, I do realise that this is unlikely to happen. :-(

Dude, I wasn't trying to be rude or make smart-@$$ comments. I was just trying to emphasize that everyone has been talking about iSync and iCal since they were announced. I was just pointing out that everyone keeps asking the same questions over and over again. Questions that were answered a million times before.

Your right, it doesn't mention iCal, but it does mention what Bluetooth phones are compatible. Before iCal was released it was mentioned on the page, but I guess they updated it since then. As for Entourage, I have no idea. I would advise you to ask Microsoft about the compatibility. Since Entourgae pretty well integrates with most other iApps, I would bet it would work as well.

Like I said, I wasn't trying to be rude, but I can see how I came off like that. I would like to apologize to you for not phrasing things better.

you won't need palm desktop with iSyn installed, i know i don't!
and all you need to sync with a bluetooth phone is a bluetooth adaptor....
no IR support right now though....
so why do we need SyncML?
Palm Desktop X was onlt a front end for the device communicators built-in...

No sweat!

RBM,

It's cool. I'd like to apologize to you for jumping down your throat. I'd like to keep you as a "friend" as I feel that you have lots of good stuff to contribute. And I might need to ask you questions about digital cameras and camcorders in the future. So I'd like to be able to get opinions and suggestions from you.

So I guess it's good.

Back on topic. Looks like iSync will be pretty useful. I don't have a Palm, but I will be replacing my cell phone pretty soon, but I really don't want one of those Sony-Ericcsson ones. I know that both Nokia and Motorola have Bluetooth phones and I'm hoping that these get supported for iSync. Perhaps an e-mail to Apple or MOT/NOK would do the trick.

Glad you guys made up.

So its wendsday, and my money is still on this moring or afternoon sometime. To try to clear some things up, I can tell you a little about the iSync beta that I've seen. Adding devices is easy, except for Palms, which you have to run hotsync from the phone to do. To add I mean. I got my Palm to show up, but then I couldn't sync it further. Its worth toing that my keyspan adapter didn't seem to want to respond after the first sync, so that may be the problem.

otherwise, the program looks good, and finished, really, except for the documentation, which cuts out halfway with a note about getting detailed instructions to us a (guess what) Palm!

So, here it is Wednesday and nothing yet. Have contracted "mouse finger" from clicking Software Update button. ;)
