Looking at the tech specs it has an Intel UHD Graphics 617 GPU.

Which has not been revealed yet.

But looks like there was a leak a few months ago:

https://www.researchsnipers.com/new...th-uhd-graphics-617-tested-for-sooner-launch/

Anyone know anything about this.

I assume its the Core M class. So TDP more like the MB, and unlike the old MBA... which makes sense.

Update:

Must be this: i5-8210Y
APISAK в Twitter: "Apple i5-8210Y Intel(R) UHD Graphics 617 https://t ...https://twitter.com/tum_apisak/status/1034639298174148608?...

So this must be whisky lake right?

It seems to have a fan, I could see it in the keynote (on the left) unless it was a round speaker, which is unlikely.

What tine in keynote ?

It isn't that CPU, look at the specs...

Gizmodo are 100% wrong.

So you agree it is an unreleased CPU?

Is it Y or U? 5w vs 15w

Looks like a notch up compared to 12” Macbook but not half way between it and U chips.
Still plenty powerful.

It's ironic that Apple have their own chips that could spank this thing silly

Yes it is.

And I think they plan to do so eventually. Switching to arm will be a process
[doublepost=1540931352][/doublepost]So since it has a fan it means it’s 15w not 5w ? U not y?

8200Y seems like the closest spec-wise. I can see it being that with an overclocked base speed and graphics, and lower turbo boost speed for better thermals.

This seems correct.

Similarly to how the U series, 15W and 28W... had special versions with faster graphics.

And now intel made special Y series with faster graphics for Apple.

However, strangely the benchmarks online appear to be the same or weaker than the UHD 615

As I thought it’s a Y series i5 with the TDP upped to 7W for extra performance - hence the fan to allow it to reach this level of power draw and hopefully stay there without needing to throttle itself down for thermal regulation!

Yep saw this not long ago.

It’s a custom 7W CPU, rather than 5W.
With it having a very close TDP to the A12X I’m fascinated to see how the two compare in performance - from the noises Apple was making over the iPad Pro, I’m guessing not favourably!

When can we expect the first reviews to appear? This weekend?

A 2015 MBA will be faster, processor-wise, than these new ones, right? To me, this new MBA has actually made the MBP (no touch bar) and the 2015 MBA more attractive... My 2011 MBA is on its last leg but I'm seriously considering getting a maxed-out second hand last gen 11" MBA now...

It’s probably likely to be close on CPU power but if your use case also makes use of the GPU significantly then the UHD 617 is likely to be a lot weaker than the HD 6000 on the original Air, and even more so the Iris plus in the MBP.
