It feels like we're second-class citizens right now

Just to start off, I really like my iPad, but it feels like we're not really getting a whole lot of attention compared to the iPhone.

It took 3-4 months to get a x.x.1 release that fixed glaring problems from launch like disconnecting wifi.

We have to wait until possibly November to get 4.0...not only has the iPhone already gotten it, 4.1 is in beta already. They may be on 4.2 before we get 4.0. It's possible iPad 4.0 will add more features than the iPhone version did, but there have been no real assurances of that either.

There are 200,000 apps on the app store right now but maybe 5% are them are for the iPad. A lot of the apps released for iPad are double-dips on apps people already paid for on their iPhones. Yeah, we can run iPhone apps technically but who wants to run an app made for a 4" screen scaled up to 10"? I've noticed a fair number of apps I used a lot that STILL don't have iPad versions even now.

It just feels like we're the red-headed stepchild of the iOS family and the device should be getting more attention than it's been getting. It's not like the iPad isn't selling.

When version 4 is released for the iPad, it will be the same 4.whatever that the iPhone has been brought up to. They're not going to release "4.0" for the iPad. Probably what will happen is that 4.1 will be released for all iOS devices simultaneously.

Really???? Come on dude. Do you just need to complain or is there something really behind it? It's not up to Apple to MAKE developers develop for the iPad. They are encouraged to but if they don't they don't. Second, in case you missed things as of late, the iPhone needed some major addressing. The iPad not so much, so once the entire iPhone antenna thing dies down, Apple will get on with developing for the iPad. Who is to say there won't be another small upgrade to the 3.2.1 that was released. From my understanding it fixed quite a bit.

And the problem is what exactly? If they were to release 4.1 now, you would be the first in line complaining about the bugs. Have you not been following the news for the last few weeks. Apple has had other pressing issues than releasing a potentially bug OS release so that people can whine about how buggy it is.

if you don't know an iPhone what do you care how the OS's are sync? You don't own one so tomorrow Apple could drop 4.2 and it has nothing to do with you because you don't own an iPhone. However, I do own both and I could not care less about their synchronization paths. I have more important things to do than sit and think of reasons to complain about nothing.

I care about OS synchronization because I paid roughly as much as an unsubsidized iPhone (Some people paid substantially more), and I don't like being six months behind on OS updates. Not that hard to understand.

Your arguments have nothing to do with the other. iOS is not simply a cut and paste where you take it from the iPhone and drop it on an iPad. Are you really not getting this? Anyway, where is your complaint about the lack of apps? Surely you mentioned this to Steve-O as well right. Better crack the whip and make those developers develop just because you say so.

I could care less what problems people are having on iPhones, I didn't make it, nor do I use it, I use an Android phone. I care about the product I do own, which is an iPad.

well, i don't think we are second class citizens but i agree with you to some extent. It seems that apple doesn't have the resources to push out and update two new products (iPad and iPhone 4) at the same time. And they clearly focus on the iPhone 4 for now because it's the bigger product for them.

I'm a bit dissappointed that apple takes it's time to release OS 4 for iPad but I agree with others here it's better to wait than getting a buggy OS given the limitations Apple seems to have.

As for the Apps I also agree there could be more and better apps (e.g. presentation software is improving but still lacking). But we have to keep in mind that developers make more money on iphone/ipod apps than on ipads right now. on the bright side there are still gaps for developers to make a killing with a good app.

btw: just ignore the posts trashing your post which was quite reasonable. this forum has gone down in quality a lot.

One has been a product line for 3+ years, the other hasn't been a product line for even half a year. Development cycles are going to be slower, this isn't overly hard to understand.

There hasn't really been any indication we're getting anything above and beyond for 4.0 when it drops. iOS 3.2 and 3.1.3 are more similar than they are different, it's the same core OS running on similar hardware for both. iPhone 3G and iPhone 4 are more different than each other than iPad and iPhone 4 are.

Anyway, where is your complaint about the lack of apps? Surely you mentioned this to Steve-O as well right. Better crack the whip and make those developers develop just because you say so.

That's a side issue, but the core sentiment is the same: We're not getting as much attention as the iPhone is.

You made very good points but the fact remain that Apple is trying to dig out from under a self-inflicted gunshot wound. As this OS is a bit newer than others and probably more complex Apple wants to get it right. If you want rushed and buggy OS's go buy Nokia. You will get all you want. For the most part the iPad is performing superbly. The wifi issues was fixed for most, as was the Safari performance. What it looks like to me is that the OP was the beta so that he can 1. JB his iPad which is his biz, 2. Wants the beta to install and then become a complaint manufacturing machine. After years of buying Nokia and SE products where they view the consumer as beta testers, I am happy that Apple is trying to do the right thing by producing quality software with minimal flaws. This takes time.

After years of buying Nokia and SE products where they view the consumer as beta testers, I am happy that Apple is trying to do the right thing by producing quality software with minimal flaws. This takes time.

You make a good point and serves mine as well I think. Running beta software is no fun and Apple, thank goodness, is not prone to just releasing OS upgrades for fun. Nokia's policy is release and fix, release and fix. Apple is much better at doing it properly. The fact that they have not dropped the 4.x beta tells me that it is not ready yet and that they will not release a crappy beta. This should be good news for most. I do agree with your later statement that they could be on a 4.2 for the iPad. As for resources, Apple has plenty but just because you have the money does not mean you have to spend it.
