It worked! I asked Engadget to create a poll about iPhone update 3.1!!

And yet the poll shows 32% people with no problems with other 30% saying they want a donut....

In total 60% of customers report no problems, so all the problems you have are either:

A. Conflicting settings from previous jailbreak
B. Messed around with carrier .ipcc hacks.

16% report minor problems, which is usual.

Neither A no B for me. Have you even been reading the threads?
 
5069 people thus far have issues, irrespective of the percentage that's a lot of people.

However, we don't know how many of them have tried to jailbreak or mess around with the phone.

Many will deny it (warranty claims). But at one point they tried or at least jailbreaked once.

The iPhone without modifications works. If you do have problems even if you didn't do any mods, then it's down to using old back-ups after the update.

It's always best to set up as new...

Not I. Ive been through 4 brand new iphones in 3 weeks. Im starting to think its a POS.

My Bold had uptime of over 30 days without hiccup.
 
I have a 3GS, never jailbroken, updated to 3.1 last weekend and it's fine so far.

I actually noticed slightly improved battery life after updating too.

Were you around when Apple released its first generation Intel notebooks? The various issues then generated easily 100x more threads/posts than this 3.1 issue you're talking about. I mean, it got to the point that a fairly major blog was organizing a mass "call AppleCare at the same time" protest. And Apple, as usual, said nothing... until it was ready to start rolling fixes out.

I hope that Apple does swiftly fix the 3.1 issues that you and others are having. I don't like how they're silent about issues, essentially leaving customers stranded. I just wouldn't get too excited about an Engadget poll having any effect on forcing Apple to acknowledge an issue before they're ready to. Apple's arrogant like that.
 
There are barely any changes over 3.0 that would cause any major issues (aside from Exchange encryption change).
 
Does not really seem like they took the poll seriously.

The options are not as clear as they should be and the donut thing is stupid.

Here is a missed option:

1. Have not updated yet

Also I would say that options 1 and 2 need to be counted together...problems are problem big or small

So the survey shows that 36 percent have encountered problems....thats 1/3

and huge....

Also as I read the comments it seems folks were fine for a while then developed issues.

You have made no case. I know a good number of people on 3.1 who have never hacked their phones and are experiencing problems.

If you're not one of them then great but I say give it time and you to will develop issues.

Just out of interest, are they first gen, 3G, or 3GSes?

And your expert assessment is based upon what exactly....the fact that there aren't many new features?

It does not take much to cripple the phones, and it is clear that Apple did not really focus on core systemic problems.

No, we are all in the extended (live) Beta testing cycle because the present Apple beta group is too small to effectively surface issues.

FYI, the vast majority of problems reports on the Apple forums have been on the iPhone 3G. The odd 3GS user has problems but they're few and far between.
 
i'm not having any problems *knock on wood* and i want a donut (i, however, voted no problems)

yea and I set up as new when 3.0 came out so the myth of set up as new fixing stuff may be true but only for none bugs. If there are bugs with the iPhone set up as new won't fix all. Some bugs just are not fixed til apple fixes it
 
It's good to know that we've got an authority on everyone's iPhone habits here, but my 3G has been on stock Apple firmware since I got it on launch day. No hacks, jailbreaks, custom settings, or anything like that. I still have regular instances of the 'coma' issue, not to mention more minor annoyances like the completely borked podcast and smart playlist support.

Must be me, though. Apple's never released a software update that's caused problems before. Glad we've cleared that up.
