Hoping iOS 19 or 20 does a complete rework of app layout and organization.

Unfortunately, every major iOS release is like starting over.

In iOS 18, I finally have Podcasts playing reliably after saying "Siri Play Podcast". This also worked well back around iOS 14 or 15. But for iOS 16 and 17, "Siri play Podcast" resulted in music most of the time. And I could go on and on regarding the strange HomeKit bugs that come and go with every major iOS release. It's become a real poop-show with this stuff especially since the major updates started following an annual release schedule.

Apple needs an "Auto Arrange" iOS setting that we can toggle off.

It's presently a very strange combination of auto and manual. The worst of both.

But do we really expect something better? If your screens are full or almost full, the sudden jumping to/from previous/next pages while you're simply trying to drag an icon is something that's been going on since the beginning of time. This is only the next iteration of the same jarring experience. Dragging an icon to another screen or page should be an intentional experience, not hair-trigger.

Agree. I don't think any of this actually works worse than it always has. I think the problem is that Apple has suggested that they've improved functionality and the user experience, neither of which is true at all as far as I can tell. Or to put it differently, the functionality is still very poor. What's changed is that Apple has raised user expectations while doing nothing at all to fulfill the expectations that Apple raised.

Haha carnival of destruction. I fully agree. I gave up on trying to customize mine. Just using the default stack cause it keeps forcing apps to follow the one before it so you can’t actually customize it easily.
