iPhone iTunes 12.7 not supported on Mavericks. How to get iOS 11?

Hi, it seems that iTunes 12.7 is not supported on OS X Mavericks. My question is that it says in the release notes about support for iOS 11, does this mean that without the latest iTunes 12.7 I cannot get iOS 11 on my iPhone?



I currently have Mavericks 10.9.5, iPhone 6 and iTunes 12.6.2.20

OK but how will I then sync new songs, images etc from my Mac to the iPhone if there's no support for iOS 11 in older iTunes versions

Upgrade to Yosemite, El Capitan, Sierra, or High Sierra

Similar to the WatchOS dependency on iOS, Apple has somewhat aligned Mac OS dependencies on iOS.

Seeing as High Sierra supports Macs dating back to 2009/2010, there really is no reason to not upgrade. If for whatever reason you dislike High Sierra, you can move to at least Yosemite.

Hi, thanks for the responses.

I'm kind of stuck as I have huge amounts of work for my job on external WD drives that I use daily but the drive software is not supported after Mavericks. I'm not really fancying spending hundreds on new HDD's at the moment. Might have to sit iOS 11 out!

Without it I could never get the hard drives to appear, they only seemed to work with the software installed. I can't risk not having them work as I use them every day for my job. I'm going to have to buy another brands high capacity hard drive and transfer it all across sometime. One that doesn't require any software!

Solving this problem is something you should prioritize. It's not good to be held captive by proprietary disk software.

I’ve been running all the betas on my iPad and now GM on my iPhone 7 Plus. Have zero issues with iTunes 12.6.x. Now with that being said, iOS 11.0.1 may require 12.7. That we don’t know.

Looking for clarification. Did you use iTunes 12.6 to update/restore your phone to iOS 11, or did you update the iPhone OTA? As I understand it you are able to sync the iPhone to iTunes 12.6.

Updated through iTunes using the GM link. No issues. Have done 5 devices now.

External drives should not need driver software to work. What if your software doesn't work some day even if you don't update your macOS? Using old OS is also dangerous in a security perspective.

But I think before long I will need to just get on with it and by new drives that don't require software to operate.

Create a partition on your Mac. Install high Sierra and test to see if you can get the drives to connect

Just upgrade your operating system dude. The drives should work perfectly well without your special software, or check WD's site for updated software. You shouldn't be running an operating system as old as Mavericks regardless. It stopped being supported 17 months ago.

I love how people are just like "upgrade to the latest OS" when some people have expensive software that is incompatible with the latest OS. Not everyone wants to shell out thousands of dollars for a version update when their current OS and software works perfectly fine together.

I lost the ability to use Logic Express 8 in El Capitan which made me sad, but I needed El Capitan for my wireless mouse to work. I don't really wanna spend $200 on the latest Logic release.
