Thank for your reply. I was using the sort fields. I just removed the information recently in an attempt to fix the problem. I filled sort items back in. Didn't fix the issue. Ray Charles shouldn't be listed 3 times as if he's 3 different artists. I've sent a feedback report to Apple. I know I'll never get a response.

Well hopefully they will resolve the issue for you. I took a quick screen shot of Aerosmith, since I know they are on a couple of different albums and compilations.

iTunes uses 4 fields to determine which albums sort together:
  • Album
  • Album Artist
  • Sort Album
  • Sort Album Artist
As long as all tracks have matching information in those tags, the album will sort together. So for albums with various artists, put the individual artist name in the Artist field, and put "Various Artists" in the Album Artist and Sort Album Artist fields. The album will sort together. If it doesn't immediately, remove the album from your library and re-add it.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!! I registered on here just to say that to you.. This has been driving me absolutely nuts. All of my compilations used to be easily sorted by just highlighting them all, and then under "Sort Artist As" putting whatever. And Itunes won't allow me to do this anymore, so i was going one by one and entering the same name in the Sort Artist field.. some compilations have 100 songs, and it was really time consuming. And you just gave me a real solution!! Thank you so much! :)

I see the same information you do if I'm using search. Not for nothing, you reminded me that I have add the rest of my Aerosmith collection. If I switch views to Artist, thats where I see the problem. What's really bad, is that I used to work for Apple and refuse to contact anyone I used to work with to ask them for help. Let's just say things didn't end so well. LOL.

Under your various artist, do you have the name of the artist or album artist as various artist? What happens if you fill in the correct information for each artist on the album, and then under grouping put it as the name of the album?

Song Name: 1234
Artist: Billy Dee
Album: Taxes the Soundtrack
Album Artist: Various

Grouping: Taxes the Soundtrack

This is how I have all of my various artist albums and it seems to work. When I do a search for the artist, they will show up with X albums and X Songs. But you will not see him listed six or seven times like the previous screen shots in this thread.

I had the name of the artist(s) in the artist field and various artist(s) in the album field. Yes, I did test trying to add the artist name in the album artist field, but that ended up giving me another listing for said artist or it would still list is as various artist, even though I had changed it. Pain! This has caused me pain! LOL!~ This just start to be an issue. It happened after the last beta (not the most recent one). I noticed that it also always happens with any new tracks I add. So, what I've done is remove the albums and re-added them. It took hours, but I got it done. That's the best solution I could come up with, outside of ignoring it until there's another update or trying to re-building my library. I didn't want to do that because I don't want to loose my play counts. (I hope I explained clearly enough, because I really do appreciate you taking the time out to reply. I am trying to type this out on the Subway and I'm having an issue with a homeless fella.)

Another plea for help. Like the rest of the posters I have problems with compilations...I'm using itunes 12.10.5.12 on windows.

I'm emptied my itunes down to 1 cd which i ripped again as an example.

It appears under compilations. It has 16 songs, all with different artists...

When I click on All Artists, I expect to see them all listed. but they don't appear. Just 'Various Artists'.

Is it even possible to see the artists listed under 'All Artists' individually? What do I need to do. I've tried 'part of a compilation' on and off....

Thanks in anticipation!
Dave
