Whatever!

You haven't shown any evidence to back up your theories.
I can show that matching is successful with phoney or no tags.

Unless you can disprove something then maybe keep quiet.
If mugging else, at least be constructive, which you aren't.

Either way, your contribution is no longer required in my thread.

NO. You can not prove they play NO part.

All you can prove is that Apple does not use the ID3 tags EXCLUSIVELY to determine the tracks.
Apple might use them as an aid, but not rely on them (because they can be faked). We simply don't know the inner workings of iTunes Match.

That's correct, none of us knows for sure. But if tagging is used at all, I'm reasonably sure that it's weighted much less than waveforms.

And this makes sense because tags are something that the user can alter. But altering waveforms is a much more arduous task.

As far as ID3 tags go. I had a few songs that somewhere along the way were noted as 'Track 1,' 'Track 2,' etc. and had 'Unkown artist' as the name and 'Unknown album' as the album name. They were matched. They have no other tagging in the "Get Info" window...

As others have mentioned, I also have a bunch of albums where most songs are matched but one or two songs are not and have been uploaded. I also have a ton or 24/96kHz songs that are 'Not Eligible.' It sucks, but for those songs I make a 256kbps AAC file in order for it to match.

I enjoy the service but I really don't like the reliability of it. The worst part is that I have a few CDs that had scratches so when I ripped them, they skipped. They are not matched and are uploaded, so I still end up with a skipped song. I was sort of going that I would be able to get "clean" versions of those songs.

I have been amazed on the number of classical songs that have been matched. I have wondered how accurate those are since any version can be different, especially with song length.

Another thing that has made me think is if there is a way to automatically monitor and match a song that was previously not matched since an album was not in the iTunes Store but is now.

Just my two cents...
