I'm not buying a new head unit. Get over it.

even if there's great units available, that would make you car enjoyable, for an affordable fair price at most stores??? that just seems silly, esepcially if you want to listen to music, why not listen to it on something thats on par with the rest of your tech?

Also there's nothing for me to get over, i really dont care what you do, i'm just saying you should explore some options is all. There's great stuff out there with all sorts of hookups for all sort of media. And limiting yourself to listening via a CDR is lame when you can have your entire collection located on you all the time in a very easy to use system.

At least look, lol thers cool stuff out there just look, even if you're not buying, at least to gauge what might be useful if you ever do decide to upgrade it.

you still burn discs? this year i finally did away with cd's. Instead of burning cd's for the car , i now carry all my music on my iPod touch and connect to the car stereo and play it over the AUX. Sounds a lot better than cd's and much easier to switch btw artists

I don't want AAC. My car stereo can read MP3 disks, and I can't burn an MP3 disk from AAC.

I was looking forward to Match until this. -.-

And preemptively, if you want me to "buy a new head unit," then you better start coughing up cash into my Paypal account.

Apparently we are just too old in our ways. ;)

To each his own.

I don't give two ***** about having my entire collection in my car or plugging my iPhone into my stereo.

I'm not throwing away $200 on a head unit when there are many, MANY other things I'd rather spend that money on.

Besides, I have very very specific requirements as to what I would want if I even had a desire to purchase something new - it's neither inexpensive nor easy to acquire.

Out of curiousity what are the specific requirements? Even though you're not buying, i always enjoy hearing what's on people's "want" lists. I've seen many a head unit do some pretty awesome things in my day. I am always trying out new car headunits, its my other obsession besides apple.

Nah, it really isn't about that. Its just about making your tech work with you in a easier fashion I suppose. That's the angle I always come from and think about, what would make what I love, that much better or fun to use!:)

I prefer a volume dial over push buttons, but with seperate physical buttons for track and "disc" select. I'd like all major controls and functions to be on the left side. Flip down detachable face. I do NOT want the typical single-line LCD display a la "calculator." My current head unit has a stellar display and I'm not downgrading.

I have an iPhone, a MacBook, a desktop, and an iPad.

Funny, that's exactly what I said you'd want match for. But whether match is AAC or not will make zero difference to a mp3 disc car stereo - if you have mp3s on your desktop computer and burn disks from that, you'll still have that whether or not you use match. Your mobile devices will get AAC from match but you're not burning discs from those. The only point where it might be an issue is if you are using Match to go from one mac to another and burning from that second mac. But if you're willing to jump through the hoops of burning an mp3 disc, having that function limited to one mac probably wouldn't be reason enough to not get Match.

And I'll agree with the other guy, if you are unlucky enough to have a car stereo that takes discs but not cassette tapes nor an aux input, the convenience of being able to just use your iPhone would be well worth it. I think I paid under $50 to replace my car stereo with a unit with aux in. No brainer. Assuming you actually value your time it will pay for itself, plus you won't have to buy blank CDs any more. For someone who can afford an iPhone, an iPad, a macbook, and a desktop computer, seems silly to cut corners in a way that wastes so much of your time.

I had one of those disk units way back when, seemed like a great idea for about five minutes then I realized how insanely cumbersome it was and dumped it for an iPod.

Match is 256kbps. When I ripped many of my discs years ago (that I simply don't have anymore), I ripped in much lower quality than that. So yes, there ARE other issues.

Ah, so you're interested in the upgrade side of it. Well that's only a one time thing, if you want to upgrade those files you can just do the match then just batch convert all of them to mp3 for your car (you can even do it in iTunes but I'd recommend something handier like MAX). It may take a while but you'd only have to do it once and then you'd have higher quality mp3 versions of all those files.
