You might have to figure out what’s going on with windows before you can use iTunes. Does windows have any type of technical support for customers?

ahhhh I found a site that provided the steps to link something with the device manager, so it is backing up now! Hurray!

What should I do after it back it up to itunes?

See if you can perform a backup but, I'm almost positive your iPhone has some type of corruption in the software. If you can get it to backup, I'd restore the iPhone and set it up as new(not using the backup) and see if your problems go away.. If they do, you know the software is the problem. If they don't, it's hardware related.. Either way, you can always use the backup to restore it to the way the phone is now

I would take the phone back to the genius bar and have them check it out. It sure sounds like the battery is not charging properly and holding its charge. You do want to be sure to backup before you take it in. Try backing up to iCloud if iTunes won't complete the backup. If iCloud doesn't work either, you may need a third party program to assist. The one that I recommend and use is iMazing 2. https://imazing.com/download

Hello again :)

I bought an external hard drive but also downloaded imazing. I'd like to back everything up. Will either of these methods work?

Thank you!

Hello!

Wow, so random, but I just downloaded iMazing 2 and replied to someone above asking about it. I bought an external hard drive and now have iMazing, not really sure which to use or what to do next. I would like to be able to set my iphone as new and hopefully avoid taking in to apple.

Any ideas on which to use or how? I use windows.

Thanks so much!

A backup won't do anything with your photos. You need to actually copy the photos manually from the phone to your computer. Plug your phone into your computer, and when it asks you what you want to do, choose the option that says something like "Explore the file folders" or something to that effect. Your phone will be listed along with the other drive options in your My Computer. Open that up, copy the folders of photos from there and paste them into a folder somewhere on your computer's hard drive, or an external drive, or whatever. You should do this regularly no matter what. I also second the suggestion of Google Photos - I use that as a secondary backup of all my photos, but I always keep physical copies on my computer.

To be honest and frank, not sure of the country and such you're in. But, I do suggest you go to Best Buy, visiting a Geek Squad agent and they can assist you directly. This will save time, and also prevent the issue becoming worse.

Alas, this is merely my opinion...

Hello everyone :D

I'm at a total loss and could use some advice. I have an iPhone X that I acquired on 1/9/19, as my old X stopped working.

It seems that something has gone awry. My battery (the over all battery health reads 100%) has been draining rather quickly for the last month or so, most likely since the last time the phone backed up, which was 1/25/19. I can't seem to get it to back up for the life of me.

I am current on all software updates.

All apps are up-to-date and I do not leave them running.

All my settings are set to save battery life.

The symptoms:

*Won't backup (even manually in the cloud)

*Very hot when being used/charging

*Battery won't charge past certain percentages like 82, 84, etc. even with a reboot, I can get the percentage up a little, once at 100%, but nonetheless, it drains within 3 hours and then charges very, very slowly.

I've tried every possible remedy I can find online: soft resets, reset "all" settings, draining and calibrating the battery, signing out of the cloud...

I see two restores in the backup section: 1/9/19 7.3 GB (this was done at the genius bar when I got the new phone) and 1/25/29 7.4 GB.

I have tried backing up to iTunes (I use PC) and it won't even allow me to do that

I fear losing all my photos, texts, etc. if I restore back to one of the backups as it was my son's birthday and there are many photos, as well, I am in litigation and need to keep all my data.

Is there anything you could think of that is causing my phone to act like such a creep?

Thank you, thank you, thank you for taking the time to read this! :)
Back up your iPhone, use multiple services Incase the back up is corrupted and get a new iPhone. Use iTunes, back up your photos to google photos in case there’s issues... make back up of back up. Restore the new iPhone with your old Data to make sure everything is there. I think your phone is dead or dying and none of us here at Macrumors can help. You’ve tried a lot of the solutions already. Get a replacement imho if the data is super important. And don’t get rid of the old phone until you are 100% sure all data is transferred. I’ve run into issues restoring from iTunes when the software between iPhones are not the same and that causes issues.
