I guess when I D/L old TV shows that aren't on anymore (Invader Zim, 60's Spider-Man, Clone High, etc.), acoustic/live stuff, old dead people (Mahalia Jackson for one), and the like I'm suddenly a thief and a pirate. Ok. I'd love to buy that stuff, but, well... I can't. They don't sell it, don't show it on TV.

Maybe if I looked real hard I could find some of that stuff. I know Zim is on TV sometimes, but I've never seen some of the eps shown and they haven't put it out on DVD or anything. Some bands put out heavily-edited live stuff. I'd go to a concert, but instead of playing the songs I want to hear, the "artists" decide to play stuff off their new album.

And there is a new Mahalia CD out, but it doesn't have the song I want.

Oh yeah, and porn. Lots of porn. But mostly softcore stuff.

you could, but it wouldn't be true, and even if it were, it would be piracy over the concerted effort to prevent it rather than an app that roundly facilitates mass piracy.

Well, BitTorrent at least is used legitimately a lot, and I think it's been shown in this thread that there are legitimate uses. Also, if the porn isn't pirated, why not share it?

try handing in an essay, or any other assignment, better yet, copy someone's test and when you get accused of cheating, tell them that you had his or her permission to use it.

3 - No, it's cheating on homework. It's not illegal if he authorizes others to copy his work.

P2P is indeed not the devil. However, not reading an entire thread before you reply is. If you had read one more post down, you would have seen that I had admitted there was a legitimate use for P2P. But, of course, then you don't get the emotional satisfaction out of pestering me, do you? Now I asked a question and it was answered and I'm happy. Don't mess with my happy equilibrium.

I've only attacked the immorality of others. And in this thread, I only questioned the value of P2P. I didn't attack anything, I only questioned it. Questioning is good, despite the fact that Socrates was put to death for it.
