If it should be free, than it should be free for Europeans as the European prices are always way higher compared to the prices in dollars.

the iWork team spent over a year porting the Desktop version to a mobile(iPad) version, why should it be free?

They already have been paid for their work. And what is wrong with giving a gift to people that per order.

no if your a student you should get it.

i win
you win

the iWork team has been paid, but now they need to bring in a profit for their work. Every App Developer wants to bring in a profit once their App has been released (at least the good Developers)

Because Apple then loses an opportunity to make money, and the goal of a company is to be profitable and generate revenue?

Honestly, "a gift", you pay for what you get for in this life dude. I pay the market $10, I get back a loaf of bread, some milk and butter.

You pay Apple $10 and you get back Keynote. Or Pages. Or Numbers.

Or if you don't want to pay, then I'm sure there will be some opportunities for you via jailbreak in the future...

Sorry... I am not normally the spelling and grammar police, but this has been like fingernails on a chalkboard for me this time for some reason

It is iWork, not Iworks
And it is pre-order, not per order

Carry on

And the war begins. Yes, its the gimmie (thats "give me", if you don't understand) generation. Gimmie, gimmie, gimmie, I should not have to pay for it, someone else should pay for it (in this case Apple). Maybe there should be a student loan for iWork or a coupon from the government. What did you (I) get free for buying a $2700.00 MBP or for buying a $2400.00 iMac. I pre-ordered both of them. Good grief, get a life, or a job and quit looking for a handout. Sarcasm intended:rolleyes:. Okay,go ahead and have fun with this:D.

I agree with this.
I know the "gimmie" generation is a global phenomenon, but here in the UK we have a "gimme" and "blame" culture that makes me sick. For example, if a natural event happens like flash flooding or severe snow, people always expect something from the government like it is their fault.
That is why I can't wait to emigrate in June :D

IMHO Apple did about the best thing that could be done for the customer. Here's a suite of applications fully optimized for the platform. We're not going to force them on you. Instead we offer them a la carte at a very reasonable cost. Take what you like and leave the rest. Come back later if you change your mind. I'm amazed that people are still able to complain about the direction Apple chose.

Buy the Archos 9. It comes with (free) Lotus Symphony for documents, spreadsheets and presentations. Apple worked hard to get the iPad price below $500. Trust that they'll make up lost profit on every little thing they can. It's the :apple: way. ;)

I totally agree. I won't need Keynote and probably not Numbers but for $9.95 Pages would be good even if I rarely use it. Apple did a good thing by this kind of offering.:)

You don't get iWork for free on a Mac, so why should you get it on a Pad.

Sure I wouldn't say no, and it would be a nice incentive to buy, but I don't expect it.

(it's not as though Apple has 200 billion just sitting in the bank...oops)

I assume by the gimme generation you mean the Boomers, right? Or are you referring to their parents, the so called 'Greatest Generation'?

The OP has it backwards. Apple should give a free iPad to those who buy iWorks. If you buy one iWorks you get a 16GB, 2 iWorks and a 32GB and buy all three and get a 64GB. They should also offer a discount if you buy all three because $30 for 3 software programs and a 64GB iPad is just too much and we deserve a bigger handout than that.
