Try canceling, and hit boot from recovery in the jailbreak file. Make sure that iTunes is closed

jailbreakme.com doesn't work..

I was following the steps on my iPod touch... I opened Safari and went to jailbreakme.com and clicked on the install link but it opened up a new page and the browser didn't crash... Am I supposed to downgrade the iPod to 1.1.1first? Sorry ... i don't really know what's going on with this..

Thanks for you help in advance!!

Tak

I am not going to help you if you don't help yourself.

Read the Posts! All of your questions have been answered many times.

And you ask if you should downgrade, when every single guide tells you too.

I don't currently need help (yet, since I can't jailbreak without being in a wi-fi-filled area), but I'd like to suggest that it be made more clear in the original post that step 2a doesn't apply to current AT&T users.

I was stupid enough to read that, not catch it, ignore all other posts, and blindly (and not to mention ignorantly) venture into the abyss of iPhone hacks. I'm just trying to look out for people as stupid as me. :(

Thank you, I'll fix that right now.

HELP!! Problems trying to upgrade from 1.1.1 to 1.1.2

I had my 1.1.1 iphone fully unlocked working with another sim (I used iphone simfree software ver 1.7), then I follow the steps to upgrade my phone (install oktoprep, etc) to 1.1.2. (im on a MAC) I could not jailbreak it, so......

I had to go back to 1.1.1 and now its already jailbroken but it does not recognize my SIM anymore, I already used the simfree software ver 1.8 but still no signal. can anybody tell me what happend? How can I fix it, thanks.

Im on version 1.1.1 (3A109a)
modem firmware 04.02.13_G

if you cannot get the jailbreak.jar to reboot your iphone out of dfu mode...just use independence...in my opinion works better on having it rebooted out of dfu..at least thats what i did..and then continue with the instructions listed on this thread..

I'll agree, technically the commands that are sent are the same...

i got to step 4....but instead of updating my iphone....itunes restored it...so ive got to start again. this is the second time this has happened. ne ideas?

Disregard this: So, I finally managed to mess something up. After step 3 (installing oktoprep), my iTunes stopped reading the phone. I tried to uninstall installer.app, and I instead uninstalled everything in the application OTHER than installer, and I've tried to reset all of my settings and restore to no avail.

At this point, I can either choose to have my iTunes read the phone and be unable to restore/activate/update/anything, or I can make the wifi functional and have my iTunes not read the phone at all...

Am I effed in the ay with a dee like a bee?

So, I managed to get my phone recognized on iTunes and restored my phone back to 1.1.2, but now I'm not getting any service from at&t, meaning no edge or anything (keep in mind that there is no proof that I ever had installer.app on my iphone at any point)... Assuming I don't figure this out on my own again, anyone have any advice to help me out?

so i followed all the steps until i get to the very end...
I connect my iphone and then quit out of itunes, then i open the .jar file then I click on jailbreak. this is where i get stuck i've been waiting for about 10 minutes and it still says reading flash image....
Am I doing something wrong?
could somebody please help me.... thanks!!!

Same problem here! Please reply...
My jailbreak stops reading flash image at 301989888/314572800 if thats any help... (US OOB 1.1.2 week 47 4.6) Running on windows (bat.file)
Have tried to go back to 1.1.1 three times without luck...

It's all about timing my friend, keep at it.

At work, bored out of my mind, decided to jailbreak my 1.1.2 iPhone that I had just recently reactivated (long story).

Anyways, I was able to put 1.1.1 on it with ease. Got it activated again, but for the past 45 minutes, I have no signal and it doesn't show to be registered on AT&T (No AT&T symbol on top left corner, and no signal bars either).

Should it take this long to register on the network? I've done restores before and was up and running in less than a minute.

EDIT:

I should add that I turned on Airplane Mode and then turned it off again and got a waiting for activation notification when it tried to search for the network. I don't know if that helps, just trying to explain as much as possible.

If you are restoring to 1.1.1 from 1.1.2, you will have to update back to 1.1.2 (jailbroken or not, your choice) for the iPhone to get service.

I read on another website that success rates with jailbreakme.com are much higher when accessed through wi-fi than through EDGE. Anyone had a problem with that? I don't have wi-fi at my house so it will be a pain to hunt one down. Maybe my neighbors will just let me....chill in their driveway for an hour eh?

I've also read that there have been problems with youtube running on 1.1.2.

I guess the big question is if there are any drawbacks to jailbreaking? It all seems like sunshine and lollipops so far.

Although in the end, all it takes is one recovery to get back to the way it is now, so I guess the best answer is to "just do it and see!" hehe. Thanks to all who have contributed though, especially you Brando. I will definitely give this a try when I have some time.

Yeah, it is a lot better on wifi vs edge, but it should be fine with good service.

On a mac, you can make an ad-hoc network to connect to. If you want/need instruction for this just hit the link in my signature.

Ok, I'm having the same problem as Kenny Wuu was, only I still haven't gotten signal. I'm using 1.1.1 right now, I'm just trying to get to jailbreakme.com but I can't with no signal....I'm gonna try again.

Seems like what is happening to me is supposed to happen, I guess I just need a wi-fi connection to get to jailbreakme.com then?

Sounds to me like that is exactly your problem...

help

i've been trying and trying.
and i still get stuck right at the end (which makes me really depressed after working on jailbreaking my iphone for 30 minutes already) when i open the .jar file to jailbreak, it gets stuck on Reading flash image, and it never finishes... not even after 30 minutes of me waiting... PLEASE HELP!!!!

Got everything working, I just went to a friend's house and used his wi-fi, you might wanna add that to the notes that you NEED a wi-fi connection, I was getting worried since it seemed like I SHOULD be able to access EDGE even though I wasn't. All went well in the end, thanks for everything and remember to donate guys, the stuff we're being handed here seriously kicks ass :)
