How long are we going to have to wait for an iPhone 5 jailbreak, I mean it was already announced yesterday... Do you think it will be ready soon.

Quite often I am asked the existential question, "Why do people start threads like this?" The answer is simple, they don't think before they post.

Just curious when there is a untethered jailbreak for the Iphone 5, will that untethered jailbreak work for the Ipod touch 5th gen?

How does jailbreak work, does it work by the device the user is using, or does jailbreak rely only on the IOS the device is on?

How do I get information about news when a untethered jailbreak becomes available? I know it is too soon, but how do you all find out when a new untethered jailbreak becomes available, like when there was a untethered jailbreak for 5.1.1?

Better get an iPhone 5 before iOS6 comes out and starts shippin' on the iPhone 5, OP ;)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's the iOS version rather than the device.

You can follow the Jailbreak developers on Twitter, or you can just wait for it to come through on the front page of MacRumors or any other tech site :)

1. It depends on the jailbreak, if its a userland jailbreak, then probably. If its a low level hardware exploit, then probably not (but maybe). We don't like userland exploits, they are patched with a quick update from Apple.

2. Depends on if its a userland or a hardware exploit.

3. http://jailbrea.kr Is always updated shortly after a new jailbreak, and lists the preferred jailbreak for ALL iOS devices. It contains nothing more, and is not a news site. For news you should see blog.iphone-dev.org which is the hands down best iOS device hacker team in existence, but they are not always first to hack, but very often, they always release quality work too. There is a list of twitter feeds worth checking out on the same site. Other than that follow whichever news blog you want which covers jailbreaks and jailbreak rumors.

with my experience, with every update, i find less and less reasons to jailbreak.

I say this with every new release too, but everytime a JB becomes available, I inevitably cower to the temptation. Even if Apple were to someday implement SBS, there's still all my Activator shortcuts that make texting/dialing numbers much faster than stock, in addition to being able to tether all I want for free. If Apple were to implement a Quick Reply solution in Messages, I might be able to live w/o BiteSMS, but not all the other stuff too.

Going to skip the iphone 5 but I learned my lesson from the last release...never unjailbreak your iPhone unless there is a confirmed jailbreak for the next IOS...:)

You should get an old bootrom 3Gs. Untethered jailbreak for every iOS version they can run. Even those versions you don't have the SHSH blobs for.

nice tweets from @musclenerd an @i0n1c…

maybe, just maybe….

Mobile Safari is down; webkit bug, arbitrary code exec by jit overwrite, infoleak to find jit pages. No sandbox break, photos exfiltrated.

@kutyacica Wonder if the same exploit works out of the box against iOS 6.

The A6 was custom made by apple, this could be either a good thing or a bad thing. Maybe they spent so much time developing it that they didn't have time to patch/find jailbreak exploits. Or maybe they built it from the ground up to be unexploitable (that word contradicts itself, everything is exploitable), and it may take a very very long time to get one.

since Apple got Comex in there pocket I've been nervous. he could either just be helping them write code or looking for exploits before the release and knowing the Jailbreakers mind could useful as well.. there is a possibility Tim Cook is more open to the jailbreak world then Steve Jobs was.

I imagine if they were going to hire a genius like him, he wouldn't just be another code writer. Chronic Dev seems to have been able to get around anything he might (or might not) be doing, but the A6 is the first chip that Comex has been around for the entire production process (excluding the A5X, but that doesn't really count), so I suppose you are right to be nervous.

The dumb thing is, I doubt apple would care even a fraction as much about jailbreaking if the term wasn't synonymous with "get free apps". I can't imagine apple would allocate the same amount of resources toward jailbreak-prevention as they do now if all they were doing is preventing people from theming their device, or setting a different default browser.

activator is the only thing i really use these days. I will probably JB, but i'm not dying to.

what is taking so long. They have had the device for more than a month now.. How long can it take?

Why are YOU taking so long, can't you do it?
whats wrong? too lazy? please tell us why you are better than all the devs together and won't release it!!

One thing, when a untethered jailbreak gets released for Iphone 5, will that same untethered jailbreak work for the Ipod touch 5th gen?

I know its going to take time for a untethered jailbreak to come out, so I might as well learn more about jailbreak. Anyway I prefer for things to take long to come out and work great, then to be released quickly and has problem.

maybe depends on the hardware and software and if the exploit works. it is possible that is found exploit will not work on iphone 5 and ipod touch 5. the Devp-team or chronic will let us know. technically since the touch pad has a A5 processor like the 4S while the iphone 5 is using a A6 sp the 4S and 5th gen touch are more likely to share the sama exploit but it could work on the iphone 5 as well. here is some light reading for you. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IOS_jailbreaking

I tried, I read in a guide to jailbreak that the first step was to decompile the device. SO i found some tools and did my best. The problem is now that its decompiled, how do you get it back together?
