The deck doesn't have to have networking capabilities, the iPhone (which DOES) denied the USB peripheral until I had upgraded the firmware. I didn't come here to be abused like the rest of the noobs that come here, I'm not just talking out of my ass. The USB input on my deck would not read the iPhone for several days following the 3.1.3 release, and because I figured an update would overwrite my jailbreak, I did not update. Finally, I got fed up with not being able to listen to my music in the car and caved. Since the 3.1.3 update, I have not once had this issue.

The fact that it happened to stop working about the time 3.1.3 came out oes not mean that the existence of a 3.1.3 update caused the issue. I'm sure it remedied the issue, but I am equally sure that restoring to 3.1.2 (had you been able to) would have fixed the problem. That 3.1.3 came out when you had to restore was an unfortunate coincidence.

Also? Nobody has offered you any abuse here. Disagreement is not the sane as abuse.

I did consider that it could be a coincidence, but I installed the same stereo in my girlfriend's car and it wouldn't play on hers either. Just to be sure, I even tried doing a full restore of 3.1.2, and it still didn't work. Considering the fact that through AT&T, Apple has a constant connection to my phone, i find it difficult to believe that it is not entirely within their capacity to deny the use of certain more recent peripherals with an older firmware.

Regardless, I didn't come to debate on the nature of my misfortune, simply to inquire about the 3.1.2 restore/jailbreak method and a link to the devteam blog.

Also, I know I haven't been subjected to abuse, just sarcasm. However, I've seen the slaughter I'm walking into... Lol

Wow, ok, chill out. I was just asking a simple question, I didn't realize that the phone wouldn't allow it to connect, hence the question mark at the end of my question. Believe me, you'd know if it was "abuse"

Seconded, relax, it's all good:)
I was just inquiring

I'm sorry man, I had read through a bunch of other threads on this site, so I was pretty much already expecting ridicule. I guess I shouldn't have been so defensive =\

I know what you mean, my fiance constantly asks me why I'm being so defensive. It's just my nature too :)

Out of curiosity, which deck was it? My Kenwood KDC-MP642U worked with my iPhone on 3.1.2 and 3.1.3. Also works w/ my late 2009 160GB Classic.

Jailbreak 3gs 3.1.3 / 5.12 baseband

hey all !
I needed a warranty replacement device, and of course Apple had it preloaded with 3.1.3.
Weird thing is that my friend just bought a new iPhone from an AT&T store yesterday, and it is loaded with 3.1.2.
If I register his phone with " saurik's " signature server, is there any way i can use that restore procedure to get my phone downgraded to the older firmware, then JB with blackra1n or whatever ?!?!
With all the searching i have done, i have yet to find anyone talk about using another phone's software or backup, then setup as a " new phone " instead of restoring the phone from your backup in iTunes.......

Thanks !

andy

your phone is on 3.1.3.. theirs no way to use someone else keys on sauriks server to downgrade your phone...

I cant believe it has been about 6 months without a full untethered jailbreak for new iphone 3gs with the new bootroms.. This is a longer wait than when the 3gs originally launched and the 3g originally launched.. this is crazy. I think they need to go ahead and release the exploit when the ipad and 3.2 comes out at the end of the month

So that Apple has plenty of time to patch it with the new generation of iPhones in June? The kinds of exploits that make untethered jailbreaks possible aren't exactly easy to come by, you know. We don't even know if they've found an exploit in the latest bootrom, and if they have, they're definitely going to keep it under wraps for as long as possible. Otherwise people would just be whining when the iPhone 4G can't be jailbroken at all.

I'm going to add a dumb noob question to this thread rather than starting a new one.

There's a lot of people in the iPad forum discussing (in a very rudimentary way) jailbreaking the iPhone for MyWi with the non-3G iPad. I'm assuming a lot of these people are in the situation I am: haven't really looked into jailbreaking much before, and are also updated to 3.1.3 firmware. I've mentioned a few times that I think we (people with 3.1.3 and no 'backups') are screwed; there've been a few people who post and say "no, just use (random weather-based app name), lol". Then I come back to this forum and read some more, assuming they know something I don't, click some more web links in circles a few times again, and then come to the same conclusion: those of us who are on 3.1.3 (without 'backups') are screwed.

Can someone please just give me a true/false on this?

Example post/possible shill:

These people are partially correct, but mostly confused :) The poster in that link has a 3G (NOT a 3GS), which I understand can be jailbroken no matter what. Only the 3GS (and the 3rd gen Touch) cannot be jailbroken or downgraded without having saved your SHSH while 3.1.2 was still active.

Thanks a lot for the clarification.
