as title says since i JB 3.1.2 on my 3g i can literally watch the battery drain about 1% per minute. after i jailbroke, which went smooth, i used pkgbackup which also went smooth. reset the settings in all the JB apps so that nothing should be running that i dont want running.

anyone know whats wrong or have the same problem?

I have noticed a similar issue on my 3GS this morning, jailbroken 3.1.2 with blackra1n.

I've been using my phone on and of for the past hour, browsing, downloading a few apps and updating a few cydia apps.. and listening to the radio.
It went from about 85% to 43% which is a HUGE drop. This is a new phone so I don't know if it's apple related or jailbreak related.

several reboots didn't help.

With the bugs in the firmware updates recently, it would be hard to say whether it could be the jailbreak alone. I'm sticking to the 3.0.1 at the minute until all the bugs get rolled out.

As much as I want to upgrade to 3.1.2 I too am sticking with 3.01 which is working perfectly for me.

Regarding the battery drain, have you tried deleting all Cydia apps and just using the iphone with just its standard apps? This will let you know if its the jailbreak or some app that is causing the drain.

no haven't tried this yet. I let it die completely (which only took about 45 minutes) and I am going to charge it completely. See if that helps.

For those who have tethering, it is almost draining like as if I was tethering without it plugged in to power.

On my 3GS, tried 3.1.2 with Blackra1n and then with pwnage and both times my battery would drain within a few hours.Tried both the restore as new iPhone and restore from backup, both made the battery drain super fast. Went back to 3.0 and my battery is only down to 90% after 12 hours.

On the 3G, the pwnage JB using 3.1.2 is perfect! No battery drain problems at all. 3G was restored as new iPhone.

I have a 3G that's been running 3.1.2 since last night and the battery doesn't seem any different. The only difference I notice is that the carrier name isn't there, but I actually prefer the look so I'm happy.

I set mine up as a new phone, if that's something you'd like to know. I feel it's more of a hassle since I lost all my game scores and achievments. Oh well. Today will be the first full day with this firmware so I'll let you know if things change.

Well I let the phone die then completely recharged it. With 2~ hours of Internet surfing I am at 46%. Not sure wth is going on

My last 3GS bled juice at the same rate, and I never even got around to jailbreaking it. Ultimately, it overheated and split down the back. I've got a new one today, and I'm interested to see how it does, esp since I just JB it.

I think imay have been over heAting. After it completely died (in about 4 hours). I plugged it in. Now I can't get it to charge. It keeps going from the plug symbol to the lightning bolt. I think I may have to unjailbreak and restore.

3.1.2 has done wonderful things for my 3GS battery life. There's a growing thread on the improvement.

Yeah. I would really like to know what apps need to be running and what don't. I just jailbroke my iPhone 3gs for the first time after only having it about a month. I used blackra1n from my PC and I have cydia and rock, oh and I restored to OS 3.1.2 right before jailbreaking. Sometimes it seems like my battery is dying really fast and sometimes it doesn't. I have nothing to compare it to and I wish there was some sort of test. When I leave my phone alone I think it holds battery well but when I'm constantly using it to do anything it drops pretty quickly. Since beginning typing this post it has dropped from 74% to 70%. And when I try to listen to wunder radio it depletes about 30% maybe 40% per hour. Not sure if this is normal or anything I can do to fix it. I want delete cydia since I only use rock but I don't know how to do it safely. Thanks for the help.

Of course using it will drain the battery faster. The battery is only supposed to last 5 ours on 3G (either when you're talking on the phone on 3G or using the internet on 3G). Listening to Wonder Radio does exactly that.

Not sure if this was mention here before, but i read else where that when you restore you should restore iPhone as new phone and not from a back up. I haven't had any issues as i always restore as new and my battery is pretty good. I did however back with 3.0.1 JB had the same issue with battery drainage and i had restored from a back up, i restored as new and the phone was great again. Worth a try :apple:

well i have restored about 4 times, tried using pkgbackup/not using pkgbackup. Tried turning things off/on and all that I could think of. At this point I gave up and went back to 3.1

I live in japan anyways and we aren't having problems with signal drops so whatever. Next feature update i will JB again.

Update: I have been downloading all my JB apps for the last hour or so since I went back to 3.1 and i still have a full battery. When i tried doing this on 3.1.2 i was down to around 70% at this point.

So, whatever, no feature updates anyways, i will stick with 3.1

Bah. Is there any way for a 3GS 3.1.2 OOTB to downgrade to 3.1, or even 3.0?

Battery life isn't so good ... only had it a few days though so can't really say if it's normal or anything :p

Right, but I would estimate that if I ran Wunderradio or surfed safari at 100% I would b completely depleted to 0% in two hours time. That can't be normal. I am going to attempt to download Memtool and delete anything I'm
not using but I know nothing about processes and am afraid I'm going to delete something I shouldn't and mess my phone up.

When i'm not using my phone it holds ok. But sometimes even not using it it
will begin to get hot as if I was running a program and deplete rapidly

I upgraded from 3.1 to 3.1.2 before I
blackrain jailbroken on my PC with my 3gs. Is there a way to downgrade and restore and rejailbreak?

pretty sure there isn't.

I also tried the memtool thing, before restoring to 3.1, and it didn't help any. cool little program though.

How were you able to downgrade? Is it because you didn't use blackra1n?

Edit:
Since my last post, today i manually deleted some unecessary processes from tutorials online with SSH. I also installed safari quitter. Right after that I went and saw a movie, two hours long, when I sat down I had 70% life, before the movie was over my phone was really warm and completely dead and took a while to restart. Then I downloaded SBSettings and did a very minimal free memory toggle. And before I even downloaded sbsettings, I decided to time it out and at 3 am exactly I unplugged from 100% and I have used the phone a substantial amount since then, quite a lot. It is now 7:33 am and I am at 49% so, half my battery life has delpleted with a substantial amount of dling apps, safari surf etc, and it was been 4.5 hours.

4.5 hours for only 50% of my battery life? I'll take it! But what I don't get is how off and on it is. Hopefully it stays this way
