Apple Employee Address Reveals iPods With OS X, AppleTV Focus, and Improved Macs
In addition to giving Apple employees a free 8GB iPhone by the end of July, Steve Jobs had a few more things to say in Apple's closed-door internal meeting today.

First, Jobs talked about how new Macs they have coming up will be "off the charts," and then talked about how they want the four pillars of their business to be Macs, iPods, iPhones and Apple TVs. Right now their focus is on the iPhone, but Apple TV will get its turn later.

Also addressed was an iPod with OS X, which sounds to us like an iPhone without the phone or communicator functions (but with the touchscreen).

Other interesting details he talked about was the 6 p.m. launch time (he didn't want people to take off from work), and the use of EDGE in the iPhone (battery, deployment issues). We're sure the employees were most excited about getting a free iPhone, which probably colored their response to all the other announcements.

Were people expecting Steve to say that the next Macs are going to be meh at a company-wide pep talk?

I think that might be extrapolating what Steve Jobs said a little bit far.

I'm just saying that by emphasizing that their focus is on the iphone right now and apple tv later and THEN mentioning that over the next year more Macs make me think that new Macs are further out than I/we thought (read Sept/Oct time frame).

The thread title is inaccurate. He didn't say 'iMacs' off the chart. Just 'Macs.' I'm sure iMacs are part of that, but I imagine he's referring to the entire computer line.

Dear Steve,

I have monies, wish to spend.

Hate the iPhone and AppleTV.

Ditto, and amen, brother. Well, I don't hate the iPhone, but it's not on my buy list right now.

Yeah, wait until V2 or 3 comes out, maybe they'll replace EDGE :)

Anyway, Jobs commenting on Macs for the near future really makes me jumpy, can't wait to see what they finally have in-store for us.

I bet the new imacs will be released when Leopard is released. That is my thinking.

I just really think that Apple would be 'missing the boat' if they released new iMacs after the height of educational purchases dies down. It really seems like it would be a missed opportunity for the company to unveil new computers and continue to grow sales.

But then again, this is a rumors site and no one knows for sure!

In regards to the macs, I think he's probably talking a lot about leopard and possible Solid State drives in the future. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a redesign of the model planned, but it's nothing to keep you from buying right now.

Well that price keeps me from buying it right now. Not that I can't afford it, but it doesn't give me that good value for the money. Lower the prices, refresh the current model or release a new one. Any of those is good enough for me. Although, I'd prefer an iMac that isn't white.

It's been almost 300 days since the iMac was last updated. Some resellers seem to be running out of stock. They just need to release something soon. And considering the time between updates, it's likely to be a redesign.

^^^ I'm jumping on this guy's bandwagon. This is exactly how I feel right now. Bring on the new designs!!

so you're saying a new design would make it a better value?

Actually it would. If you don't like the current design that much but you like the new one, it would make it a better value. Also if they just do a refresh now and release a new design early next year, then the current design will have lower resell value.

However, they wouldn't release a new design without bumping the specs a bit.
