so you're saying a new design would make it a better value?

Of course it would be a better value. It is not like apple would give us a new case design and not improve the computer in some way. If they give us a redesign it is going to be something nice. IMO.

New hardware will turn up before new software: that way they can get people to buy both.

I would expect new iMacs towards the end of August, to sucker in those who can't wait the two months or so before Leopard is released.

Remember the "Year of the Laptop" though? Don't remember anything important about that year. I also remember him saying that there some "exciting things in the pipeline" for PPC products just after the intel announcement. Nothing there either. However, to be fair, I think that transition went much faster than anyone expected.

A new iMac might make some rumblings, but nothing can touch the iPhone's hype or interest for a long time. Not even Leopard (which, btw, I am looking forward to)

I got suckered in the day of the WWDC keynote...couldn't wait any longer. Afterwards, I jumped at every iMac update rumor, but now it isn't much of an issue...hopefully it won't become one either.

Started typing a drawn out post, but realized I had previously posted one.

Ya gotta remember that though Jobs does make great stuff that we all want, the thing that he's absolutely the best at is packaging, in all it's incarnations. The physical design of the products, the design of the interface itself, and most of all the 'packaging' that is Apple. He is, first and foremost, ALWAYS selling. So when he says something that sounds like an ad line like 'the year of the laptop' something very cool could be on the way, or not. What will never change is the optimistic view that he presents. Not that there's anything wrong with that, he's a great salesman. Just don't read the tea leaves too closely.
