I didn't realize you only have 30 days from the time you receive your shipment to the time you send in the forms. They start counting the 30 days from the day you receive your last package. My own procrastination finally caught up to me!

were you denied the rebate because of this? i wonder if a call to apple customer service might change anything...

That's how pretty much all rebates work. I hate them and I stay away from them.

Haven't got to that point yet. I couldn't find a deadline anywhere searching real quick on apple.com so I hopped into chat and the guy told me to call customer service and explain my case and I may be ok. I just didn't want to hack apart my box to take the label off the day I got it (wanted to make sure the MBP was gunna work properly). I still don't want to cut it off, but if it's worth $200 I am willing.

I must not be experienced enough with rebates. Every one that I've sent in before had more than 30 days to get it in. I just sent one off today for the phone I got back in May. I guess only time will tell what happens. Come to think of it, I got screwed by another company on a rebate. I had 60 days to send in the rebate papers. Well, they sent me a cable modem that was broke (which took about 14 days to get to me) and when I found out it didn't work I had to send it back (which took another couple weeks). They took their time processing the return and sending out another one. By the time I got the new one it was too late to send in the rebate forms. I called and got an authorized extension on my rebates and they only sent me a check for one of them. I completely forgot about this until just now. :mad:
 
I'm pretty sure I had more than 30 days. Can't be positive... but I bought an MBP and an iPod Video 80 gig. The iPod was for my dad's birthday on July 10th. I received the last package from the order on June 14. I didn't want to butcher the iPod box before he received it so I didn't send in the rebate (or even start the rebate process on the website - did that on purpose because I didn't want it to start counting down too early) until July 11 or so. I believe it was postmarked before 30 days, but I also think they gave me more time than 30 days (the required postmark date when I submitted the online form was later than a couple days later).
 
sold my free ipod on ebay for 180 dollars and sent in my rebate asap. don't procrastinate. because of that i was able to get everything real cheap. however, apple is not a robot. talk to support. Make up an excuse. Im pretty sure you can get your rebate in if you explain your situation.
 
Okay, I read this thread and immediately pounced. I was gonna send the rebate in 2 days since I've been so busy. I bought my macbook pro and ipod and printer on june 28th. Today is july 31st.

After talking to apple on the phone for about 30 minutes, and being on hold for about 25, I finally got to talk to a CSR from the rebate center (they had a hard time reaching them).

Basically, you have a 15 day grace period from that 30 day thing. So, in effect, you have 45 days from date of purchase.

My excuse was "the guy at the store told me to wait 30 days before sending it in just incase I needed to return it." she said "dont worry everyone gets a 30 day grace period"

Thursday is 15 days past my 30 day mark. I may be in luck. I honestly was waiting to make sure my MBP didn't have any problems (thinking a had more time than I did to send it in). I've been busy in summer school and finally finished up all my homework for class yesterday. After my battery started having a meltdown during class yesterday, I went to apple.com this morning to read up about it and get the number for AppleCare and thought I'd check out the rebate info again. When I searched real quick and didn't see what I was looking for I started up a chat session. The rest of the story is in my first post.

I started this in hopes to help someone else who might not have realized this either and is still within their 30 days. It looks like it worked out well for clickclickw00t. Wish me luck, but I've already decided if the answer is no that I'll live with it.
 
Well, I called Apple as soon as I got home from work. I explained my situation, and the guy was like, "let me talk to my manager. I have to get it approved through them anyway." Well, I was on hold for 10-15 minutes, and when he returned he said we were good to go. Instead of having me submit the forms and hack my boxes apart, he said they were just going to refund me $199+12.64 tax for a total of $211.64. I should have my money back in 3-5 days. So far it hasn't posted to my Apple account, but we will watch in anticipation!

Also, I called AppleCare about my battery. The lady said they have been having a few problems with batteries that won't hold an acceptable charge. My new battery should be here in 2-3 days.

Apple sure did deliver!

You got tax money back?:confused::confused::confused: Rebates shouldn't include taxes. I didn't, and I sent my rebate in on time and everything:mad:

I believe that tax is the amount of sales tax paid (6.35%) on the $199 that went toward the purchase of the MBP. Which would be correct. As much as they would like to, the government should not get to keep the sales tax on money you didn't spend. ;)
 
It took me all of 15 mins to fill out the info, get the UPCs and mail the rebate. Well worth the 200 IMO.

They do too keep it, because the money was spent. Good luck getting anything back from the government.
 
I'm a little nervous too since I'm going to take advantage of the free printer too (I hate inkjets, but hey). I hate rebates. HATE rebates, and it's made even slightly more complicated by not being able to send in the originals with both rebates (there's actually a field to fill in the other promotion you're using, so they've theoretically accounted for this, but still).

Some companies seem great with rebates-like I've gotten them quickly from Sony and Amazon. Sony I even screwed up what I sent in, and got a letter back with an 800 number to call, and the person (an actual American) was really nice about it and I ended up getting my rebate a couple of weeks after I sent in the correct UPC.

But then other rebates require months of work. I never did get a $1 Rayovac rebate :rolleyes:
 
Do you even have to send the form in?
Is there any reason you can't do it in the store 5 minutes after you buy it?

No I don't have to send anything in. They have a charge on my account for $1 now, most likely checking to make sure it's a valid account. Within a couple days I should see my money. Apple is the BEST!

And they don't do it in the store because they most likely want people to either not bother actually doing it, or people forgetting to do it. No sense in them doing it in 5 minutes when they may be able to get out of it altogether.

What do you do when months later you have still not received your rebate? You then proceed to call to look into it and it goes nowhere. All the company has to say is they never received it.

I say rebates are a great deal if you were planning on buying something anyway. Free money is always great. I won't let a rebate make my purchasing decision, though.

Well it did make me buy another iPod I didnt need.
 
Does it require to CUT out UPC instead of peeling the label off?

I bought an iMac last year and it requires you to actually cut off the cardboard of the UPC label. Just some more advice.
 
I just sent in my rebate, and when i read the terms and conditions i ran across this..

CLAIM PROCEDURES: You must submit a claim via mail. Rebate coupons may not be altered. Duplicate or incomplete coupons will not be honoured. Mail an envelope enclosing your completed original coupon, UPC labels and proof of purchase. THE ENVELOPE MUST BE POSTMARKED WITHIN 30 DAYS OF YOUR PURCHASE DATE. Late submissions are not valid.

So while it is kind of a short time frame, you just have to do it right away.

That's what sparked this whole topic. I wanted to make sure everyone else knew that. Oh, and it's not the purchase date, it's the date you received the last piece of your order.
 
hey guys,
if you fill out the form online (www.apple.com/promo), I think you get a few extra days beyond the 30 days; i.e. i purchased mbp + ipod 7/2/07 but on my printout from apple, it says my upcs must be postmarked by 8/16/07.
