Well, I called Apple as soon as I got home from work. I explained my situation, and the guy was like, "let me talk to my manager. I have to get it approved through them anyway." Well, I was on hold for 10-15 minutes, and when he returned he said we were good to go. Instead of having me submit the forms and hack my boxes apart, he said they were just going to refund me $199+12.64 tax for a total of $211.64. I should have my money back in 3-5 days. So far it hasn't posted to my Apple account, but we will watch in anticipation!

Heya!

Just letting you know that Apple hooked me up as well. Although I initially purchased my MBP on June 5th via the Apple online store, I had to get it replaced because of a flickering display issue. I didn't receive a replacement until last Thursday, which was outside the 30 day (+15 day grace period for returns/exchanges) period. So I called up Apple today and they were willing to directly credit my credit card for the rebate amount! ^^

Kudos to Apple. ^^

I received both the $200 iPod rebate and the $100 printer rebate checks. They've been pretty fast processing it.

I believe that tax is the amount of sales tax paid (6.35%) on the $199 that went toward the purchase of the MBP. Which would be correct. As much as they would like to, the government should not get to keep the sales tax on money you didn't spend. ;)

You don't pay sales taxes, businesses do. They have to file all the paperwork involved, not you. Business in the US however, do not like to put the tax in the price (as is common in Europe). When you get a rebate, it is almost always on the pre-tax cost of the item, not on the net cost. Very few (if any) give you your tax money back.

No I don't have to send anything in. They have a charge on my account for $1 now, most likely checking to make sure it's a valid account. Within a couple days I should see my money. Apple is the BEST!

The dollar is for your battery, not for the rebate. They charge your card a dollar to make sure it works before they sent out a pricey replacement part (that requires you to send in the defective one). Not related to rebates.

Some companies seem great with rebates-like I've gotten them quickly from Sony and Amazon. Sony I even screwed up what I sent in, and got a letter back with an 800 number to call, and the person (an actual American) was really nice about it and I ended up getting my rebate a couple of weeks after I sent in the correct UPC.

Sony was great with a rebate of mine, I sent in the wrong label and they sent me a letter saying so and I just sent them the right one and they dealt with it and sent the rebate!! I have had times when the company claims it was never received and you basically are screwed, and some like Sony that really want to help you get the rebate.

hey guys,
if you fill out the form online (www.apple.com/promo), I think you get a few extra days beyond the 30 days; i.e. i purchased mbp + ipod 7/2/07 but on my printout from apple, it says my upcs must be postmarked by 8/16/07.

I second this... I signed up online the moment that I planned to send it (about three weeks after purchase) and the postmark deadline I was told was definitely after thirty days of the last item being received.

I got my check recently and it was exactly $199, no tax was refunded. Now I'm jealous that I didn't call!

Just got off the phone with Apple. It has been 7 days and I hadn't seen any refund yet. The guy said it was just posted to my account at 6:13 pm (I looked at my clock, and it was 7:13 pm Mountain Time). I think they didn't post it and when I called the guy finally sent it in. I guess it could have been coinsidence that they posted the refund to my card at the exact minute I was on the phone with someone about that very thing, but I find it highly suspicious!

Don't forget to take advantage of the free printer offer while you're at it. You can do both the Back to School '07 and the Perfect Companion promotions with a single computer purchase, don't miss out on a free printer. I picked up the $100 HP Photosmart C4280 All-In-One and its gonna be very useful next year, especially the scanner. Great for digitizing and organizing notes.

This may very well be a stupid question: where do I find the part numbers I need to fill in on the rebate form?

And for those of you who need visual evidence, here is a screen shot of my bank account from when Apple credited me the $199+12.64 tax totaling $211.64
