Here ya go.. most people stopped buying iphone to be prepaed for the latest version.. juat maybe a factor...
The GS3 did not come out 23 days after the 4S.

Maybe you're thinking of the 2?

Which is the consensus. iPhone 4S sales floored because iPhone 5 was just around the corner, which made other smart phone sales seem greater.
This is not rocket science.
I'd to see real numbers though, like how many were sold per carrier, which is far more telling. If Samsung sold 5000 units, and Apple sold 4,800 units, the headlines become far less sensational.
The increased sales volume of the Galaxy S III is very significant, and cannot be denied.
Why?
There's well over 50 other Android phones that count & take away "Android" sales from the SGS III when that category is reported.
To those who use the excuse "the one year old" iPhone 4S, haven't a clue.
Facts are the US market was the last to get the SGS III, the actual release date was just 23 days after the release of iPhone 4S. Therefore they're the same age.
In _no way_ am I advocating for Android or Samsung. I'm an Apple loyalist & shareholder of over twenty years. Yet if Apple exaggerates or fails to live up to what I _know_ they're capable of, I don't hesitate to speak out.
Just like when I'm asked for a laptop suggestion I always point people to Apple. I've converted loads of PC users to Macs. It's the best their is.
In lieu of something positive to contribute, you thought you'd pump up your ego by proving someone wrong. Feel better?Sorry but you don't have a clue what you're talking about. The GS3 was released first on May 29, 2012 in Europe--nearly 8 months after the 4s.
UPDATE: Looks like intervenient beat me to the punch.

but when you get called on it, the very 'fact' that is the basis of your argument, you find the criticism unfair?those who use the excuse "the one year old" iPhone 4S, haven't a clue.
Read the post, the comment on release date was not the basis. So you can chastise but when you get called on it, the very 'fact' that is the basis of your argument, you find the criticism unfair?
Because now they are locked into a 2 year contract and won't buy the newest iPhone and that changes everything for Apple and how they will have to address the upgrade cycle.
Samsung isn't stupid. You don't stand directly in front of a heavy hitter.
Samsung launched the GS2 a month before iPhone 4S in the USA and got annihilated.
There is a reason they cut the USA lifecycle of the GS2 down to about 7 months; they wanted to launch the GS3 without iPhone 5 wrecking the party.
A month to a limelight is what Samsung will get at best. I'll call it now and say Apple will sell more iPhone 5's in one month than Samsung has sold GS3's ever.
I don't think it will be a huge factor considering the sheer number of people more than happy to pay for an iPhone outright.
However, as I speculated awhile ago, the great GS3 sell off started today. There was a huge jump in used galaxy S3 for sale ads on my local online classifieds in the last 24 hours. Prices are now as low as $350, which was unheard of just a few days ago when prices were rock solid at $450 on average.
No doubt there are people looking to buy their way back into an iPhone by selling their GS3 now that the dalliance has lost its luster.
I don't think this is the big question that the GS3 is the best selling phone this month.
The real question is who was the people buying them.
If this was all vertical upgrades from other Android phones no big deal but if a bunch of people that bought the GS3 came over from the iPhone camp is the question.
Because now they are locked into a 2 year contract and won't buy the newest iPhone and that changes everything for Apple and how they will have to address the upgrade cycle.
and this is in California, not some little town in Kansas.
Don't pick on Kansas , pick on Oklahoma instead.
Yeah, this is stupid and means nothing. iPhone sales always drop before a new model launches.
I was one of them. Got sick of the crap Apple was spoon feeding everyone. But, I will also be purchasing a new iphone for my wife. So, even though I can't stand the phone and put my money into Samsung, I still will be giving money to Apple.
