after spending an age in the Apple Store last night, I ordered in-store what was going to be my first ever Mac - 11.6 inch, 1.4GHz, 4GB, 128GB....

....then I came on here and read how almost everyone who had an 11.6 inch MBA has the 1.6GHz with 4GB of Ram....and thought to myself 'why didn't I get that spec?'....so for another £82 (which is peanuts in the grand scheme and cost of these beauties)....that's what I'm going to do.

I promptly cancelled my on-line order, and will return to the Apple Store tonight for the better spec model.

Sweet! :D
I'm not sure how much of a difference the extra .2GHz is in everyday use (net surfing, emailing word processing, video watching etc.) but since this little guy cannot be upgraded in any way once purchased, I figured I get the highest spec I could...;)
Congrats on a fine purchase! You're gonna LOVE it!

I so can't wait! After ringing my local Apple retail store (to save another trip) I was initially disappointed that they didn't have one in stock, so I ordered online again - just before lunch yesterday.....it's now 'out for delivery' so should be with me soon :D:D:D

My oh my....ordered Wednesday at 1145 am, delivered the next day by 3pm.

I'm absolutely blown away by the machine. It's incredibly beautiful, elegant and insanely fast (compared with windoze). My first ever Mac, and how I wish I'd made the switch sooner. It really is the ultimate upgrade!

So far, I've only had chance to copy my photo and music collection to it from USB stick - but even that has been a pleasure to do. A little more photo organisation required, then I'll add the photos to iPhoto and the music to iTunes, and really get this baby rocking.

In summary, so far, so amazing!

This has much more to do with the SSD than the OS. I've got both my MBA 13 as well as a Lenovo running Win7 and an SSD. OSX boots up a few seconds faster, past that there is no appreciable speed advantage for either machine.

I thought about going higher spec and then opted out once I tested out the base model 11.6". This thing is pretty fast, and for storage, I figured that I would start using my mobile me idisk more (this hasn't been all that pleasant, btw). As far as tasks, I can watch a hulu video with no hiccups if I am not doing anything else. General usage is pretty great actually. I haven't installed anything heavy on the system.

My backup plan for storage is to get one of those USB thumb drives for about $30. I think i can get 32gb or so. Great little computer though. Not mad at the screen like I thought I would be.

Concur...the display may be small, but it is GORGEOUS!!! :D
I compared it to an iPad's display and the 11" Air's looked better to my eyes...
I also LOVE LOVE LOVE the 16x9 display...my Slingbox now plays with no black bars! :D
