BORROW a Mac!! And, buy an (inexpensive) PocketDrive to backup its working system and contents onto - using "SuperDuper." When you've bought the latest iMac, and need to to return the borrowed Mac. Simply clone the PocketDrive clone to the iMac. This assumes Intel to Intel hardware. If Power PC to Intel scenario just clone the data to the iMac Intel.

My apologies, I should have thought before I posted...

You ARE up against it.

Go with the iMac you can obtain.

You can always sell on rapidly the "fossil iMac (2006)" to some "sucker" at $100 less than list and then buy the "post-fossil" iMac... at the new reduced price!

What's the point in losing money just for the sake of having the latest machine? Be happy with what you have unless you don't mind the hassle of selling your machine and all of the costs (time and money) incurred.

EDIT: I just noticed my forum title changed! :)
It won't let me set an avatar, though!

Just a quick update, I've had my 24" imac since July and I've never been so pleased with a computer in my life.

I did install bootcamp but I haven't had any reason to go back to Windows for anything yet. I would never go back to PC. Ever.... and I'm glad I bought this one before the new ones came out. I think the new ones are ugly, plus this is better than most of the new ones anyway...!

Hmm..

I don't own one yet, but I do know that insulting others that have bought the newer ones isn't going to win you popularity points in forums.

Either way, it's nice to hear that your happy with your investment. I'm hoping my company bonus next year will be enough to get a 24" also.

Lol...I'm not insulting anyway.

It's my opinion that the new one are cosmetically ugly- which isn't really much of a reason to dislike the system at all. Just saying that I'm not displeased at all that I didn't wait.

I think it's to each his own but until you actually see the alu iMac in the flesh you can't really grab how nice looking it is. I thought it was ugly in the first pics but god does it look good.
