Just bought a Google Nexus 4

I busted my GS3 and I attempted to fix the glass via the 20 dollar glass on eBay. I got so close to taking off the shattered glass then I applied a bit to much pressure and cracked the actual screen (LCD) itself.

I was looking around for unlocked phones (GS3, Note 2, iPhone 5, GS4) and I wasn't really a fan of the 500+ prices and I ran into the Nexus 4.

From what I understand I won't get LTE on my Nexus 4 (I'm on verizon) so will I just get regular 4G speed? Now that I'll be able to tell the difference.

What? The Nexus 4 is a GSM phone, your Verizon LTE sim (from your Galaxy S3) will not work in the N4.

Whether or not you notice it depends on how good the 4G coverage in your area was in the first place and how often you use the data network but try it and enjoy, Nexus phones are very nice for the money IMO, especially if you like fast updates and customisation.

It was pretty fast but I mean I'm not using this to download files or for such. Just the occasional facebook update or Instagram upload and checking scores. So I don't think I'll die I'm planning on leaving Verizon after my contract is up (another 2 years or something).

the nexus 4 is a gsm phone. it won't work on verizon's cdma network, not even a little.

the phone really is no good to you if you're on verizon. if you bought it from google, i'd try to see if you can cancel the order. if it's too late for that, i think you have 15 days to return it.

Unless Verizon suddenly developed a GSM network you should not be buying a Nexus 4 (GSM only). The only Nexus device you should be buying is the Samsung Galaxy Nexus for Verizon.

The LTE sim from Verizon is for data provisioning on the Verizon network, it will not work in a GSM phone like the Nexus 4.

No 3G/4G/LTE, or whatever else you want to call it. A Verizon LTE sim will not work in a unlocked GSM phone period.

I knew it wouldn't support LTE but I didn't know it just flat out won't work.

Google support team kept telling me it would... damn them.

Return. Tell them you were misinformed. They'll refund.

I returned my Nexus 4 (three of them, technically) because of back to back to back defective units. I told them I had enough, can't keep setting up a new phone and shipping an old one back until I get a proper unit.

Got a full refund. Refund took forever to post, but it did come.

Yeah I finally got someone who actually looked into it and finally told me that it wouldn't and they had it confirmed. Told her that I was previously told multiple times that it would work.

Told me to just not accept the package and if it does get accepted just do not open the box and send it back for a full refund.

For once in my life I look like a total IDIOT! I can't believe I didn't do my research before buying I just assumed "unlocked" meant it'll work no brainer! Def learned something today!

Which just received 4.2.2 about 2 weeks ago when everyone else, including the GSM GN's have been on it for months. It's a EOL product so who knows when VZW will approve and release the next update.

But if you really want it, yes they can be had used for around $200-250 depending on condition and accessories. I saw one in mint condition, with extended batteries and a few cases sell for $250.

Wow that sucks. I did not realize it still had to go through the carrier. What about people who bought their nexus 4 straight from t-mobile? Would that have to also wait for the carrier?

Nope. The Nexus 4 that TMobile sells is the same version from Google Play. Direct OTA updates no need to go through carrier.

Would it be worth it to leave Verizon? Currently I'm with my parents but my parents are due for an upgrade so they said they'll disconnect that one line rather than upgrade and they'll pick up my remaining contract and let me go free to whatever provider I want.

Or they'll upgrade that line and let me grab the smartphone of my choice.

I mean I already have the Nexus 4 coming either way it's expected to be here around April 11ish.
