Unlocked and Verizon should not be placed in the same sentence :p

Actually any phone that runs on Verizon's LTE bands has to be unlocked due to FCC regulations on the block that they own. Technically they could activate and work on Sprint's network, however Sprint won't have the Hardware IDs in their database and will not be helpful at all. :p

That said there are some phones that Verizon has sold before that included GSM radios. Hell even the latest CDMA iPhone I believe has support for certain GSM bands. Correct me if I am wrong though.

Even the iPhone 4S on Verizon can do GSM. Only because of the radio in the phone though. I use mine when abroad on GSM carriers. They unlock it for international use with little effort.

You aren't supposed to be able to use it on AT&T but there is a way, using jailbreak and modifying a couple files or so I've read.

Point is the phone has to have the hardware to accomplish stuff. And as nice as the radio is in the N4 it doesn't support CDMA. Which is what Google wanted, except for storage capacity there is only one version of the N4.

Would it be worth it to leave Verizon? Currently I'm with my parents but my parents are due for an upgrade so they said they'll disconnect that one line rather than upgrade and they'll pick up my remaining contract and let me go free to whatever provider I want.

Or they'll upgrade that line and let me grab the smartphone of my choice.

I mean I already have the Nexus 4 coming either way it's expected to be here around April 11ish.

t-mobile is the cheapest of the big 4 if you want unlimited talk, text, and web and fast internet speeds. Their hspa+ network is up to 42 mbps, which is basically LTE. I only get 23 on att LTE and on tmobile hspa+ I get 27 mbps down.
