Bought MacBook and so relieved!!

You can hide the windows task bar in the same way you can hide the dock. Personally - I find the dock more intrusive than the task bar.

I find the dock more useful than the task bar! I also love how I pick up my MacBook and never feel like I need to do anything to it, though I'm feeling like I should be defragmenting some Windows machine somewhere, but hopefully that feeling will subside soon!

Play!

I came to this thread through the index, so I didn't see that there was another thread this this apparent spin-off was taken from.

Regardless though, its still quite immature to do this.

Play! Play! Play! Too bad we're socialized not to play!

You make a lot of very good points and it's amazing how often I right-click these days without even thinking about it. The way Apple implemented it on the trackpad, it just seems so obvious.

Yep, totally agree. When I sit down at a Windows laptop that actually has 2 buttons, I really need to think about how to click now. Same with scrolling.

Can Winblows Fans Understand Humor?

Why are people on here actually trying to defend Winblows and getting defensive when the entire point of this post was to make fun of some weirdo who thought it made sense to post why he bought a Dell over a Mac.....on a Mac forum? I wouldn't expect people who think Windows compares to OSX in intuitiveness and ease-of-use to fully appreciate the humor in responding with a reason why he bought a Mac over a Dell.... on a Mac forum. Great post.

I don't think you guys see the point.

His thread made absolutely no sense as this thread makes absolutely no sense.

With Windows, you can put icons for your commonly-used programs next to the "start" button. So you're one click away from Word, Internet Explorer, etc.

I understand the concerns with viruses, but personally I've never had a problem with them on PCs. I guess I'm just lucky.

No that's TWO clicks, and Windows has MINIMAL drag and drop support. For example, you cannot open a file (such as PDF, or an image) in a non-default program without wasting your time.

That's because companies such as your ISP, your work, spent billions of dollars on anti-virus and similar products. However, it's most likely your computer has spyware installed that YOU DO NOT KNOW. By the way, 90% of spam are sent by infected PCs that send only a few messages per day so to be undetectable by the end users. So if you hate spam, move away from windows.

two finger scroll

I must say, I love the mac os over windows any day but it was the two finger scroll option on the trackpad that sold me. A co worker has a macbook and I discovered this and loved it ever since. Can not understand why windows pc's don't have this option..

This guy bought the Vostro...

New Dell Vostro with loose pieces in cabinet

I'm not a computer newbee. I got my EE degree some 20+ years ago, and have run mainframes and a multitude of PC machines.

Our firm ordered a Vostro for the upcoming tax season. (Our first mistake!)

The packages arrived just before Christmas, so we put things aside until I could get have time to put this machine on-line.

The boxes were shipped by DHL, and were in pristine shape; no obvious damage or mishandling.

The Vostro machine rattled when moved from horizontal to verticle, and I shook the machine, and it sounded like there was a loose brick in the machine.

I took the side panel off, and low and behold, the whole CPU fan was loose, and the power cable for the back panel fan and CPU fan were all disconnected.

I've seen cables come loose in shipping and cards come unseated, but this appeared to be way beyond what could have possibly happened just in shipping. The CPU fan is held on with 4 threaded screws into the motherboard. All 4 screws had to have come loose for this thing to have been flopping around in the case, and it's much more probably that the thing was never assembled correctly.

Is there any QC done on machines before they go out the door? It would certainly appear that this one shipped without anyone ever doing a power on test.

Has anyone ever had a machine delivered in such a state of complete disassembly?

Uh, no....
