If she was past the 14-day return limit, she wouldn't have been able to take it back without a 15% restocking fee. Do the math--for a $1500 (before taxes) laptop, that's a $275 fee (before taxes). She might have thought she'd have a better chance of recovering her money through Craigslist. As for why she'd return it at all? Buyer's remorse, need for cash, change of mind...the possibilities are endless. What's clear is that the only we she'd have a hope of getting her money back without going through Apple would be by selling it to someone else, which is what she did. If she wasn't past the 14-day limit, she might not have been aware of it (not many people are, to be honest), which could also have driven her to explore other options. At any rate, the deed is done. Time to move on, no?

Well since it was bought from a uni store, we don't know if the same 14 day restriction would apply. Also, if she bought it at $1300, the 15% fee would still leave her with $100 more than what she sold it for.

EDIT: The laptop was purchased on 12/11/07 (according to the OP's OP), and the OP reported to us that he had purchased it by 12/17/07 (the first day of the thread). This means that the girl was well within her 14 day return period, and would have lost NO money, since the box was unopened.

Once again, something does not fit.

Not trying to be rude here, but, not everyone knows or even wants to know when Apple releases updates to their product line. Half the people in my school don't even know the difference between a MacBook from last year and the current macbooks. She possibly didn't even know and thought it was new.

I'm pretty sure she didn't know it wasn't "new." Like you said, most people don't focus on this. However, it is strange that she bought it on the 11th, sold it by the 17th, and took an apparent $300 loss. Common sense would say that that doesn't fit, especially because the box was unopened (thus would have qualified for a full refund) and was well within the return time frame (usually 14 days, and since it was a uni store, possibly up to 30 days).

Those facts lead me to believe that something is wrong with this whole story. It doesn't fit together as it should.

she bought it with a gift card. The uni store doesnt refund cash on a gift card purchase is my guess.

:shrugs:

I don't know what happened, but I'm positive some crucial part is being left out of the story by this girl. Why'd she buy a giftcard? Why not ask for a refund on the giftcard (required by law in many states)? It just doesn't add up well.

HOWEVER:

I'm glad you're enjoying your macbook; don't let my rantings get in the way of that!:p:D

She bought it with a gift card?

OK - well, my opinion (and no judgment, for the record) a) she got the gift-card through shady connections and wanted to flip it for cash or b) she got her parents to "buy her a computer" via a gift card and she wanted to flip it for cash. In any event, she wanted to flip it for cash and the model of the MB was probably irrelevant - and the campus store probably didn't take it upon themselves to tell her it was the May '07 revision (they wanted to clear the stock).

In any event, as someone who got a Black 2.16 in August (I wanted to wait, I couldn't) but who has a best friend with a 2.2 Black from November, I can say that I have not seen any noticeable difference whatsoever. I mean, by the time you need more than 3.3 GB of RAM (the CPU is doing most of the work that you are usually thinking the GPU will do - and you still can't play 3-D games -- it's a better integrated card, but it's still a crappy, in terms of "specs" - but more than sufficient for what I've thrown at it, which includes Media Composer, FCS 2 (not lots of motion stuff, but the little I do has been fine) and FCE 4), you'll be ready for a new computer anyway. For $1000, you still got a good deal.

No the OP is not enjoying his blackbook because if he was he never would have started this 'killer deal' thread;)

Filmgirl understands it, I understood it last week and I NEVER let your rantings get in the way of understanding any of the threads :D

Well he originally started it because he imagined he got ripped off (though for the price he paid, he didn't).

It's now evolved into something else entirely! :p

I understood it last week
You knew she used a giftcard before the OP posted about it? Surely sir you exaggerate!

:p

Hmph I'll have you know I only rant every once in a while:mad::p
