I sympathise, ordered a white 2.0Ghz 80Gb 2Mb MacBook last week it is on its way to me but order does not show any update yet.

This is in the UK, any suggestions as to the best approach to either getting a refund / apple store vouchers from Apple for the difference?

John

P.S. Same spec price difference is c. £200 1 week later. If I buy the same model (Middle one + extra 1Gb RAM) then the difference is £30 cheaper 1 week later

Call them if it's not been upgraded. If they won't upgrade it just use your 14day window to send it back and get your £££s back. Bit of a mission yeh, but if you're bothered about the molah might be worth it. OR yeh if you want some vouchers it might be worth giving them a call and seeing if they'll hook you up with some.

I can't imagine them not doing something for you. They've been really good to me considering I DID buy the old model yesterday, I'd imagine a lot of people saying "Tough, you bought it already".

I bought my MacBook through Amazon.com exactly 30 days ago. I went on Amazon's site and e-mailed them through my account with the order # and price difference ($105) and requested to be refunded the difference. I just got an e-mail back that said they have credited my card the $105. I'm happy.

Apple says my old order from last tuesday (shipped monday) w/ overnight shipping is the old model.

i'll confirm once it gets here on Thursday.

Ya, i am not happy w/ the shipping situation.

Sucks. This is the first time I've heard about people getting the old model after it was updated.
You should call them again and be really firm and demand that they do not send you an old model after it is updated. It's not like they didn't know that the update was coming (they as in "Apple", the salesclerks probably didn't).

If it doesn't work, I think you can refuse to accept it when it arrives, then they will have to refund you. But you should definitely check up on that!

Otherwise, send it back within your two weeks.

Best of luck getting a new model!

Me too...

Typing this on the Macbook I bought a bit more than a week ago. If I had found this site first and suspected they were going to update, I'd have waited. The place I got it from had a 7 day return policy and it's just over that. But, the one I got is fine (lowest model).
Still beats Windows!

Many people have been saying that as long as it was ordered within the last 10 days, they will give you a 100-200 dollar refund. Make sure you pursue it!

I got mine from a university, that only has a 7 day return policy. I suppose if I had bought from Apple I'd be eligible for some kind of refund. The cash would be nice (for a bigger HD).

Price match

This happened to me last fall when the C2D came out. There was a $300 drop on the core duo at Circuit City. I made a copy of that bin tag and took it to the apple store were I had purchased my blackbook and was returned $300 plus tax. I was at 28 days when I did this.

Even though places have a return policy of limited days you should also check and see if they have a policy of price guarantees or price drop policy, something like that. Those types of policies are not advertised or easy to find. I did a Google search for Amazon's price policy and found it that way. $100 is $100. Took 2 minutes to search.

Even if you don't manage, know that you're not missing out on all that much. You'll get at best a .16 processor speed bump and prettty much no other discernable features. By all means try, but if it doesn't work out, you can be happy with the computer that you've got.

I beg to differ, you get a faster processor, more RAM and more HD!!!! It is a big deal!

Don't forget it has the faster wireless card as well.

Those ****ers at Apple need to let people know ahead of time when they are about to update there computers.

It's been said before but I just had too... why? Why would they... not even PC makers do that... what's your problem?

Definitely - although you can get a full refund, I think a £60 transportation charge will be deducted. You can find full details on the Apple Store's Customer Policy section.

BTW if you buy 2GB of RAM from Crucial, it's about £40 cheaper than Apple, so from what jrober outlined, returning the MB and then ordering a new one but getting 3rd-party RAM, he would be making a grand saving of £10 after that delivery penalty has been applied.
