I really hope apple fixes all of these problems with the updated MB and MBP. Untill then, apple will not see any of my money.
Same here. I've been keeping an eye on the MB since August and I'll waiting until I'm confident that these issues are addressed. I can't have and I won't have $2K become trash in a year. If this goes on for another couple months, I'll wait for "Santa Rosa" chips instead.

Well I got it back this morning already(just sent it in tuesday morning) but now it has black marks on the trackpad button, its scratched in a few places, there was masking tape over the word macbook on the bezel. There was a clear plastic protective thing over just the wrist area it stopped before the keyboard part and only the bery bottom of the bezel had protective plastic on it. And the protective plastic was severely creased like it had been used a bunch of times.

The service details say product serviced by replacing the following: APP-630-7253 PCM MLB, 2.0GHZ DC, TOP CASE W APP-603-9857 ASSY, SMS/ST APP-605-0994 SVC, BEZEL, M42

Then says "Consumable parts used as required"

I checked the serial number and its the same. Do the laptops serial numbers not change if the logic board is replaced? The imac we have changed serial numbers when the logic board was replaced. It was also not recognising right clicks with two fingers on the trackpad so I restarted it and now its displaying the vertical colored lines. It starts out with just a couple of colored lines and it grows to fill the screen with them.

Its very annoying I can't believe this I was upset to have a problem at all but then I was feeling better since they turned it around and had it back to me in 2 days time. But this is freaking unbelievable.

The repair was done by Flextronics International in Memphis TN(I called apple and they sent me a box I was surprised to see flextronics international on the service sheet) and it has the service technicians ID I hope he gets taught how to take care of a computer when he has it on his bench.

Flex in Memphis farked up my Macbook so many times they are sending me a Brand new one..

They are barely keeping up with the demand for Macbooks, I am sure they couldn't care less if one person doesn't buy. Try to get the problems out to the world, perhaps then they would care.

Same here. It's threads (horror stories) like this one that's keeping me from buying one. I've read some threads where the MR member gets a new replacement on the spot, and then I read threads like this one where Apple gives the person the shaft. I know one thing for certain; if I ever bought one, it would be directly from the Apple Store and not from a reseller. And if I did have problems with it, I would take it directly to the Apple Store; no mailing of any kind.

I bought directly from the apple store online, but our nearest apple store is 2.5 hours away so mailing is the only option. Most of the time the store just mails it to the same place anyway. But yeah I wish I was closer to an apple store to see if I could just get a replacement there as if I showed them the way it came back they probably would have. He promised me if it comes back messed up that I can get a replacement(gave me his extension). I'm going to ask for a pro if it comes to that for my hassle and for not letting me get a replacement this time.

Also if it comes back and has a problem I'm able to get a replacement, what does that entail? Is it a brand new macbook? Does it come in a retail box so I know its new or does it come as just the macbook? Or is it a refurb?

isn't this your second repair? i thought the policy is that you wont get any replacement until after the 3rd repair...
and yeah, i think they will ship you a new macbook in retail box.. but why don't you ask for a refund, so you can get whatever you want (and if you want to add a few hundreds and get the pro as you wanted)

They terribly botched my first repair is why I was asking for a replacement. He said if there are any more problems I can get a replacement.

if they fixed the problem, why does it matter... an if the problem remains, you'll eventually get your replacement (after 3rd time)

No matter what if theres another problem he said I get a replacement. But I'm kind of fuzzy on this third thing. Is it if it has to go in for a third repair its replaced or is it if it is repaired a third time and then if something else goes wrong its replaced?

i'm not 100% sure, but my understanding is if it still has problem after 3rd repair (i also dont know if they have to be the same problem...), it will be replaced.

Thats kind of how I thought it was. But this guy said I could get a replcement he left me his extension and everything and said how to get to the extension part in the phone system.

Under U.S. Code (as implemented with the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act), if it has been repaired 3 times and not fixed, you are eligible and well within your rights to receive a new unit (U.S. Code, Title 15, Statute 2304 Section 1 Subsection 4). Courts have interpreted the "reasonable attempt" language within the Code to mean 3 times when pertaining to electronic devices.*

does that have to be the same problem?

That law might say within 1 year???? I might have read that before? And I think that law might say for the same thing?? I might be thinking of possibly a state lemon law too though possibly.

Apple should just do you a favor and give you a new one. You're having to think wayyyyy to hard about this replacement thing. ;)

that guy on the phone promised it would be back to me today and nope its not here flextronics jsut got aroudn to working on it this morning. Man this sucks. I got off work to recieve it and everything

I got my new MBP 15" in on Monday of this week. This is my first Mac, so I spent a day or so figuring it out. Turns out the Superdrive will read production CDs and DVDs, as well as burned CDs and DVDs, but won't mount blank media. I called Apple Care today at lunch, described my issue, and the technician told me I had the option of repair or replacement. I chose replacement. This was on my first call, so I don't think they have a 3rd fix rule. They are shipping labels to me now, and when I call them back with a tracking number they will ship the new MBP in the retail box, according to rep.

Flextronics International screwed up my order too!!!

After three trips to Flextronics International (a certified Apple Repair facility), Apple finally replaced my MacBook.
My first repair was supposed to be for a flickering screen and replacement of the top case for splitting from the screen spacers. It returned with the screen repaired and a service repair detail sheet claiming they had fixed both problems, but the top case had not been replaced.
The second repair took care of the top case, but the screen bezel was broken and attached with glue to hide the damage done by the authorized repair technician.
The third repair returned with the bezel repaired but the glossy screen returned with a wicked scratch at the top left corner.
I finally found the right number to call at Apple to received some appropriate service for the lack of Flextronics' faulty service. I also made sure to reference complaints against Flextronics' on this thread.

Let Apple know how bad Flextronics' is making Apple look.

you have to be carefull, yesterday when i got my macbook i was with a friend, he noticed that my mac book had two main seals on it. one was cut and another was placed on top of it!

i mentioned this to one of the workers and he was like, all the seals are like that, i said thats impossible. there should only be one seal on each box and they should not be broken. please go back to the back fine me a box with one seal, that has not been broken, or anything like that.

5 mins later, he came out and did the exchange for me. makes me think they take the machines back and re-package them if they can get away with it. i was a little shocked. glad my friend was looking out. :)
