Hey guys just got my macbook and I've been tinkering around with it and stuff for the last few hours. Setting it up was a brain fart for me because I couldn't figure out why it wasn't connecting to the internet when it asked for a password. Then I found I need to use the $ sign.

Hi I have a new macbook and I am new to this. I am being asked for my password and it is telling me that I have the wrong password. What is the $ sign for and where do I have to put it
Thanks Chris

I think you put the $ sign before the password. For example, if the password is: 12345678 then it will be like this $12345678

It probably stands for Secured? Security? Not sure.

nope no digital camera here.

Screen Shot =

Command + Shift + 4 + Space Bar.

You'll see your screen turn blue with a camera icon on the screen after you let go.

Now press your click bar.

There will be a "Picture 1" on your desk top.

Go up to File and export it to a jpg format if it's not already. Drag and drop that into your pictures folder. Now you're ready to add that to your MR attachments folder for posting the screen shot on your next post.

There's also another way to take a screen shot for a separate portion of the screen:

Command + Shift + 4

You'll see a cross hairs icon on your screen.

You click and drag the icon for outlining the portion you want to capture. When you let go, you'll see Picture 1 on your desktop.

its not working for me either. and im running safari 3.0.2
i know ive been to this site before also.

yeah I think the site is just down. At first I thought it was my computer but I tried it at work and it's doing the same thing. I have a queston about Safari now. I want to enable private browsing but does that not stay at private browsing every time??? I noticed once I turn off the comp and turn it back on its not checked and I have to check it again. Also is there any point to it??? I noticed on my macbook I'll type in an address and before I type in the whole addy it will fill it in for me automatically any way I can turn this off??? Thanks so much.

private browsing is nice if your computer is used by other people and you don't want them to see what sites you've been to(porn). not sure about the auto address fill. mine does it too. try clearing your history though.

Hit cmd+, in Safari, click the Autofill tab and uncheck all the boxes. That'll disable Autofill.

Ok just had another quick question. I completely forgot to turn on my firewall on my new mac till today and actually didnt realize I had to turn it on. Today is Monday and I got this macbook on Friday. Question is how bad was it not to turn it on till now????? I turned that log thing on and noticed there was a whole list of crap on there from just being turned on for an hour. I use a wireless linksy router and thats wep protected. So is my macbook screwed haha????? I mean its not a windows where if you don't have security on you can have a ton of viruses. So just wondering if everything is ok. Thanks a lot.

Yeah, I think it is but not sure. Then again what does the firewall do just protect from hackers right???
