Hey All - For those debating whether or not to get the new 27" iMac...GET IT! Just bought the quad-core i5 iMac from the Apple Store here in the Boston area tonight and I am completely in love:p

I upgraded from a late 2008 15" MacBook Pro (which was a great machine) and am really enjoying this GIANT 27" LED IPS display. Just moving all my files over from Time Capsule and haven't had a chance to push the Core i5 but I'm betting it's blazing fast!

Anyway, just wanted to share some initial thoughts and excitement with the MR community. Pic of my set up below. Let me know what you think!

PS - the Magic Trackpad is sweet as well:D

Congrats to you! I can't wait to get mine next week. I'm just a bit nervous.

So everything is working perfect on it? I am worried about yellow tint and noise coming from the HD.

From your post it seems like the answer would be yes!

Cheers

Nice! Congrats!

I am enjoying the 2nd week of having my 27" i5 Refurb. It is definitely quite an experience to go from a smaller display to this monster, but I am used to it now.

I'll attach a picture of my setup here as well. And yes, in case any Doctor Who fans read this, that is a TARDIS you see in the corner (usb hub, and it lights up and makes the sounds too!).

Congrats on your purchase. I bought the new quad i5, but decided to return it and get the refurb i7. Cheaper and faster I think. Congrats!

Nice! I noticed it in the corner. I actually have one too! It really is a great hub! Not just a stupid toy either.

I haven't noticed any yellow tint or anything. The display is amazing and the machine seems to run silent. Again, haven't even had it 24 hours, but so far so good;)

What's it like going from having a trackpad in front of the keyboard ala MBP, to having a trackpad off to one side on your iMac setup?

Well, when I went to buy the iMac, I was totally fine and even excited about using the included Magic Mouse. But, when i got to the Apple Store, they had just put out the Magic Trackpads with all iMacs. I played with it for 5-10 minutes and really liked it.

It actually feels more natural off to the right instead of in the middle of the keyboard, but the main difference is the size of the trackpad. It's really effortless with so much finger space and although the Magic Mouse has a few swipe gestures, this trackpad has them all.

Also - my glass desk prevents me from using the Magic Mouse without a mouse pad. And I just attribute mouse pads to older computers, so the Magic Trackpad seemed like a great alternative.

Kind of related: I really like your desk, where did you get it?

Thanks buddy! Unfortunately it looks like it's been discontinued. Oh well.

Yea. My Dad bought the same desk a few months back and I think I remember Staples clearing out their inventory of it. It was a great deal at $319, but I think I got it on sale for $250 or something. Check Z-Line's website though. They have some attractive products for reasonable prices. Solid quality.

sigh - Everyone's desk areas tidy and cool :( - Mine always looks like a bomb went off in the room ...

Do like everyone else does and temporarily pile all the crap up behind you whilst you take a photo, then put it all back :)

I wonder how many people will cry when they realize apple is going throw imac OS 10.7 and no previous macs are going to be compatible.

A clean desk is a sign that you have enough free time to clean it off. A bad thing for a work environment; my desk is always covered in stuff.

when u did a restore from time capsule, was it a backup of ur MBP? did u just tell osx on the new i5 to restore from that backup?
