Please… do tell me more about the Macs I owned.

You expect ownership translates to complete understanding of what it is lol?

You clearly didn't know the naming convention:

Great but OP didn't have the retina lol.
There hasn't been a non-retina MBP since 2012.

See, confused. I said OP didn't have "the retina", i.e. the 2012-2015 models. You assumed if it wasn't a "retina model", then it must be a "non-retina model". But you forgot the 2016 onwards butterfly models.

So sorry I explained it to you.

For the power and battery life it's lightweight enough. It is indeed noticably heavier than the latest 13" MBPs but it doesn't bother me at all. In fact all of my non-Appe workstation class laptops were even heavier and bigger with less battery life and more fan noise.

Remember that we the users were the ones that kept repeating Apple should stop making their devices thinner and thinner and should go back to the roots, give us our ports back, bring Magsafe back, increase battery life, and so on. Apple listened and made this in my opinion the best laptop that ever existed.

feels like I have an old Dell.
You might want to try that and report back - the old laptops I have around have creaky housings, the display hinges are loose and the display wobbles back and forth when typing, the keyboard has some flex (the 14" has essentially zero), the fan is noisy and if you look at the power cable the wrong way it stops charging, and if you accidentally get the cable caught somewhere it feels like it's gonna break the socket off the laptop.

Just because you drew a conclusion, doesn't mean its an accurate conclusion.

You're right, I totally thought Apple didn't make MBPs with Retina screens from 2016 until the M1s.

Interesting, maybe it's the weight distribution. It feels so much heavier and in the evening I use my MacBook on my lap and this ones stars falling back. I'll give it a few days. Other than that, it's an amazing piece of engineering. Didn't know it had all the ports too which is nice!
Do either of them have a case or cover?

You didn't read my explanation properly. Yes they made MacBook pros with retina screens from 2016 on, but they're not usually referred to as "retina macbooks” because that title is used for the 2012 - 2015 models. Keep trying to understand, you'll get there.

So using the 13inch today, this thing feels tiny and very old. Now keeping the 14inch. Yes its lighter the 13inch but actually the screen is so dull vs the 14inch. I see the value now!
