I felt left out cause I don't have any SSD's in my system (yet), so I created a 4GB RAM Disk and ran XBench.

Disk Test 1195.30
Sequential 742.38
Uncached Write 563.19 345.79 MB/sec [4K blocks]
Uncached Write 2181.97 1234.56 MB/sec [256K blocks]
Uncached Read 362.57 106.11 MB/sec [4K blocks]
Uncached Read 2524.30 1268.69 MB/sec [256K blocks]
Random 3065.70
Uncached Write 1218.09 128.95 MB/sec [4K blocks]
Uncached Write 4240.84 1357.65 MB/sec [256K blocks]
Uncached Read 10140.48 71.86 MB/sec [4K blocks]
Uncached Read 6694.17 1242.15 MB/sec [256K blocks]

I usually mount one of those to use as a scratch disk for PS. Currently set it up as 4GB, leaving 6GB for everything else.

How is the RAM drive working for you? I was all fired up to do this until I read that the RAM drive itself could be swapped to disk... which would pretty much negate the whole reason for having it set up...

OWC drives are fine, but not the most cost effective.

Also, is this how you use your drive?

And so I decided to do one more test:

Write 50 million 3K files;
Erase the volume

If it is, than a C300 will not keep up with you and only a Sandforce controller will. Again, under normal use the C300 should not be an issue.

Keep in mind, that the test you linked to was run against the C300's firmware V1, and they upgraded / fixed issues with the GC process in V2.

Crazy speeds.........

Hmmm. I've never thought about that, haven't noticed if it has done it or not. Is there a way to check if it does that?

HOW! I have 12 GB ram and I'd love to have a 4 GB ram disk for a very specific purpose!

Open Terminal and enter this exactly:

HTML:
diskutil erasevolume HFS+ "ramdisk" `hdiutil attach -nomount ram://8555555`

You can change the "ramdisk" to be anything you want to call it, for example "superfastthing" etc etc

the number 8555555 = how many bits or something, I don't remember the exact math. But doing this creates a 4.38GB Ram Disk, shows up in Finder like a normal mounted disk. Feel free to adjust the number up or low depending on how big you need.

Just so you know, when you eject the drive everything is instantly erased. Same if your computer shuts off or reboots, so it's best used only for temporary things you don't need to keep.

Also, next time you open terminal you don't need to type anything back in again just 'arrow up' and you can see your terminal entry history. This is retained in Terminal regardless of if you keep it open, reboot, shutdown etc.
