They should still stay true to their own HIG's, and allow appointments to be made (calendar entries) by tapping the time, as opposed to a "+".

I know! It frustrates me so much that I can't simply tap on a time then drag down to where it ends. That's basically what I do with iCal, click on a time, drag down, and name it, one would think that with a touch interface that's just what we'd do.

Yes and it kills me ...I do agree that the makeing of apps in the likeness of real world objects makes them easier to use. Maybe the apps were rushed and that is why 4.0 is taking so much longer for the iPad ....dang it :/ I hope apple surprises us with the missing apps like calculator and weather I miss them ... The ones I've downloaded are not as good.

You've got to consider that although Apple has been working on something called the iPad for the last 10 years or so, it was only after the iPhone became such a hit and they read my suggestion here that they started making one with the iPhone OS and not OS-X. Give them another 6 months and the stock apps will be significantly better. Also trust me that they DO read these forums and your suggestions will not go un-noticed.

It irritates me to no end that you can't set up custom repeating events. The only options are "Every day," "Every week," etc. No option to select "Monday, Wednesday, Thursday" or "Tuesday, Saturday" etc.

Can't change an event's calendar once you've created it.

STILL no to-dos.

No way to set a default alarm.

Can't see times in month view.

I get why some of these were left out on the iPhone (sort of), but the iPad has a nice big display with a completely redesigned UI. iCal is not that complex of an app, the iPad Calendar app should really have these basic features, imo.

It's as if it's a newborn baby, abandoned in the street—I try to go help it, and it stabs me with a rusted fork. Still, I go to the baby, and still it stabs me with the fork. (stupid baby. stupid calendar).

o_O

...you put way too much effort into that metaphor...

...i will now have nightmares...

*shudders*

The best way to improve the calendar to suit your needs is to write your own calendar app. It would solve your complaints, and might make you a millionaire. :D

I was pretty amazed that the pages could not be turned with a swipe.

Maybe 4.0 will see a number of refinements
Page-turns and gestures in general should be implemented EVERYWHERE. OS-wide. If it's book-like, as Calendar is, then it should turn like a page. There's absolutely no reason we should need to use the tiny arrow buttons in Safari to go back when we could use two fingers to swipe back. I'm amazed they didn't introduce this, since the Macbook trackpads do it and the Magic Mouse does it. It seems tremendously short-sighted to not have it on the biggest, best example of touch-control Apple has.

I would like to see it work like calengoo or pocket informant and at least have basic task syncing.

I hope you're joking about Apple using your idea for the iPad...

I was looking at both of those apps today. Need a monthly view WITH times. Can anyone say how they like calengoo or pocket informant??

Sometimes it's 9am, sometimes it's 10pm. On mine, at least. No idea why. And I swear I saw an arbitrary 3pm once.

It seems to me it is based on time of day. I had entered in something around 1pm and that time came up. About an hour later it was 2pm as the default. May have been coincidence since I only noticed when I had added the two that close in time.

Indeed. Browsing the app store is another good example of where page turning could be made much easier, rather than having little arrows to tap to take you to page 2 of 3, or whatever. And yes, the Calendar should support this too.... why make it look like a book if you can't handle it like a book?

iCal was my favorite and most used app for iPhone, the iPad app is useless to me. Luckily many developers have stepped in to fill in the gaps left by Apple and come up with great alternatives like Digits is a fantastic basic calculator.

LOL, this thread has been up for 12 minutes.

I thought the same thing. OP must think everyone is just sitting around waiting for his post and should reply immediately.

FWIW - I do agree. The calendar app seems very unfinished to me. In the meantime, I'm using the desktop version of Google Calendar within Safari. I just wish they had a half way decent icon for your homepage.

I find it annoying the differences between the iPad calendar app and the Mac OS X version.

In Mac OS X I can change an appointment/event to a different calendar (i.e. change it from work to personal) without having to delete the appointment and create a new one. I can set custom reminders instead of just choosing from a default list. I can copy individual appointments/events. I can view tasks (which I now no longer use since I can't view them on the iPad). I can add and delete calendars.

None of the above things can I do with the calendar app on the iPad. I'm just glad I have Mac OS X and an exchange server because I don't know how people without Mac OS X even make good use of the calendar app. Not having the ability to add or delete calendars or set custom reminders would make it a no go for me.

Just yesterday I was trying to drag an appointment to a different time with my finger, this seems pretty intuitive and should be included.

Beautiful UI but I agree it could use some enhanced functionality. I wish that the default mail program allowed to "smart" import events from emails like mail in OS X allows.
